Ivy League Women’s Soccer Concludes History-Making Season With All-Ivy Squads, Major Awards

PRINCETON, N.J. – Following one of the most successful women’s soccer seasons in recent history, the Ivy League announced the major award winners and All-Ivy recipients on Wednesday afternoon. 
 
No. 17 Brown collected two major awards including the Rookie of the Year to Brittany Raphino while head coach Kia McNeill was unanimously named Coach of the Year. Harvard junior forward Murphy Agnew earned Offensive Player of the Year laurels while Yale senior defender Aerial Chavarin grabbed Defensive Player of the Year honors. 
 
Raphino played in all 17 games for the Ivy League champions, tallying a team-leading 19 points on eight goals and three assists throughout the 2019 campaign. Her season-high three goals helped the Bears defeat Fairfield 5-0 on Sept. 18 and she added a goal in a pivotal 4-2 Ivy League win over Harvard on Oct. 19. 
 
McNeill earns Coach of the Year honors for the first time in her fourth year at Brown. McNeill led the Bears to its first Ivy League title since 1994. Her squad posted a program-record for wins in a season (14) and finished 14-1-2 overall with a 6-0-1 mark in league play. The Bears finished No. 10 in the final NCAA RPI rankings of the year after being placed as high as No. 6 during the season. 
 
Agnew totaled 22 points (7 goals and 8 assists) in her 14 games played for the Crimson. She had multiple goal games in a 3-0 win over Quinnipiac and a 2-1 Ivy League victory over Princeton on Oct. 26. 
 
Chavarin led a Bulldog defense that was impressive across the board including a 0.85 goals-against-average. The Bulldogs totaled six shutouts throughout their 16-game season. From her defensive midfield position, Chavarin also pushed forward to tally eight goals throughout the 2019 campaign.   
 
Chavarin, Agnew and Raphino were all unanimous First-Team All-Ivy selections along with Brown’s Sydney Cummings. The Ivy League champion Bears paced the league with four First-Team recipients (Abby CarchioKayla Thompson, Raphino and Cummings) while Harvard (Agnew and Gabby DelPico) and Yale (Chavarin and Noelle Higginson) placing two each. Columbia (Amalya Johnson), Princeton (Madison Curry) and Dartmouth (Bonnie Shea) closed out the First-Team recognition.    
 
Three student-athletes each from Princeton and Harvard paced the Second-Team highlighted by Tiger goalkeeper Natalie Grossi, who finished her career with an Ivy League record 31 shutouts to her name. Grossi’s teammates Courtney O’Brien and Lucy Rickerson also etched their names onto the team joining Harvard’s Kimaya ColeAngela Caloia and Sophie Hirst. Columbia (Shira Cohen, Ally Clark) added two to the squad while Brown (Ava Seelenfreund), Dartmouth (Allie Winstanley) and Penn (Breuk Woodard) each placed one student-athlete into the honorees.
 
The league finished the fifth-strongest conference in Division I women’s soccer (out of 32) and totaled the most non-conference wins (52) in league history. 

Ivy League champion Brown will host a NCAA Championship opening round game this Saturday when the Bears entertain Monmouth at 12:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
