NEW YORK, N.Y. – In one of the most tightly-contested races in recent history, Penn pulled out a thrilling Ivy League Heptagonal Cross Country men’s title.
The Quakers finished with 62 points just ahead of Harvard (65 points) and Princeton (68 points). Columbia (85 points) rounded out the top four followed by Yale (97 points), Cornell (164 points), Brown (183 points) and Dartmouth (197 points).
Columbia’s
Kenny Vasbinder (22:08.8) claimed the men’s individual title in front of the hometown crowd in New York City. He outlasted Penn’s Anthony Russo (24:38.3) and Yale’s Robert Miranda (24:40.8).
It’s the Quakers first title since 2016 and fifth Ivy League men’s title overall. Senior
Will Daly picked up a top-10 finish with a time of 24:59.7 before a trio of juniors –
Ryan Renken,
Daniel Cohen and
Alex Roth – rounded out the championship scorers with 14th-, 17th- and 19th-place finishes. Daly and Renken both earned second-team All-Ivy honors.
Harvard turned in an impressive performance, just three team points off Penn's pace. Freshman
Collin Baker (24:52.8), racing in just the second event of his Harvard career, led the Crimson men to a second-place finish as well. Baker was followed by last year's champion Kieran Tuntivate (25:03.3) and junior
Matthew Pereira who placed in 11th and 12th, respectively.
Five schools placed individuals in the top-eight finishers.
