PRINCETON, N.J. – Cornell senior
Matt Morgan moved into fourth place on the Ivy League all-time career scoring list as the Big Red defeated Columbia, while Yale extended its win streak to seven straight games as the Bulldogs held on for a 70-67 win at Brown.
Princeton sits atop of the Ivy League standings with a 2-0 after a season sweep of Penn, while Dartmouth, Cornell and Yale are each 1-0 in the standings. Ivy League play will continue next weekend with rematches in the travel partner series. All three League games will be
available on ESPN+.
Cornell defeats Columbia, 60-59
Senior guard
Matt Morgan scored a game-high 21 points to become Cornell’s all-time leading scorer as the Big Red survived a valiant comeback attempt by Columbia for a 60-59 win. Morgan moved into fourth place on the Ivy League’s all-time scoring list with 2,044 career points, surpassing Cornell’s Ryan Wittman ’10 (2,028) and Brown’s Earl Hunt (2,041). Cornell connected on 48 percent of its shots from beyond the arc with a blistered 64 percent (9-of-14) in the first half.
Columbia was led by sophomore
Gabe Stefanini who put up 18 points and five rebounds, while
Quinton Adlesh chipped in 10 points, two assists and a steal.
Yale Defeats Brown, 70-67
Yale extended its win streak to seven straight games with a hard fought 70-67 road win over Brown in both teams’ Ivy League opener. Alex Copeland scored 14 points to pace four double-figure scorers for the Bulldogs, while Jordan Burner pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. Yale shot 47.5 percent from the field. The Bulldogs who are on their longest winning streak since the 2015-16 team won 12 straight, have also won 10 of their last 11.
Brown’s Tamenang Choh registered a double-double on 18 points and 16 rebounds to pace the Bears. Choh shot 9-of-15 (.600) from the field. Obi Okolie scored 14 points, including a key three-pointer with 15 seconds left to make it’s a one point game.
