Three Ivies Finish in Top 10 at NCAA Women's Rowing Championships

SARASOTA, Fla. –
Three Ivies finished in the top 10 in the team standings at the 2018 NCAA Women’s Rowing Championships Saturday at Nathan Benderson Park. The League has had at least two two finish in the top 10 in the team standings in all 21 NCAA previous championships. 

Because of the impending storm in the Sarasota, Florida, area, the event was shortened to two days with the semifinals and finals both on Saturday.
 
Yale finished eighth with 93 total points, marking the second straight year the Bulldogs were the highest Ancient Eight finisher at the event. Yale has registered 14 top-10 finished in the last 17 years.
 
Princeton took ninth overall with 92 points, earning its 20th top-10 finish in program history and best finish in the varsity eight since 2013. Brown placed 10th. The Bears have finished in the top 10 in 21 of the last 22 championships.
 
FIRST VARSITY EIGHT
Princeton put forth an impressive effort in the NCAA final, and the Tigers posted their best finish since 2013 by placing fifth overall in the varsity grand final with a time of 6:23.34. This marked Princeton’s 12th top-five finish in program history.
 
In the varsity eight petite final, Yale went toe-to-toe with Virginia, Southern California and Michigan. UVA was first in 6:28.633, followed by USC (6:29.138), Yale (6:30.866) and Michigan (6:30.981).
 
In the Bears' final race of the regatta, Brown's 13th-seeded first varsity eight won the C final for 13th place overall and 30 team points behind a time of 6:29.626. Brown topped 15th-seeded Washington State (6:32.274) by 2.648 seconds
 
SECOND VARSITY EIGHT
Yale’s second varsity eight was impressive on Saturday advancing to the grand final. The Bulldogs, seeded 12th, finished six with a time of 6:37.854. Washington won the event in 6:21.081 followed by California (6:27.201).
 
In the Petite Grand Finale, Princeton, Brown and Syracuse were locked in a three-team battle for 4-5-6. With Brown ahead at the 200 meter mark, Princeton made a push over the final stroke and caught Brown to finish third and ninth overall. The Tigers clocked a 6:37.855. Coming in just 0.023 seconds behind their Ancient Eight foe, Brown finished in 6:37.855 to take 10th overall.
 
VARSITY FOUR
Yale placed sixth in the varsity four grand final with a time of 7:21.908, just three seconds out of fifth place.
 
In the varsity four petite grand final, the eighth-seeded Bears came in third to finish ninth overall with a time of 7:20.449.
 
Princeton’s varsity four raced in the C final, where the Tigers used a late push to open the race and win the final by three seconds. The Tigers clocked a 7:26.61, followed by Navy (7:29.58) and Wisconsin (7:30.09).
