Five Ivies Earn ITA Regional Honors

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Five Ivies were recognized among the 2018 ITA Regional Division I Year-End Award winners.

Dartmouth’s Chris Drake—the 2018 Ivy League Coach of the Year—was dubbed the Wilson/ITA Northeast Regional Coach of the Year. Eighth-year head coach Drake led Dartmouth to its first Ivy League title since 1997—and third all-time (1993, 1997)—with a 6-1 League mark. The Big Green concluded regular-season dual match play with a 20-5 record and handed Columbia its first Ivy League loss at home since April 23, 2011. Drake has earned 2-of-4 Ivy League Coach of the Year nods (2016, 2018) since the award began in 2015.

The ITA Northeast Regional Player to Watch—Dartmouth sophomore Charlie Broom—has flourished under Drake’s tutelage. Broom, who was named the ITA Northeast Regional Rookie of the Year last season, went 13-6 at No. 1 singles this spring. He was 1-of-3 players recognized as First Team All-Ivy in both singles and doubles this season and 1-of-2 to be a unanimous First Team All-Ivy honoree.

Columbia’s Howard Endelman was named the tasc Performance ITA Northeast Regional Assistant Coach of the Year. The Lions eighth-year associate head coach helped Columbia to its fifth-straight Ivy League championship and NCAA Tournament appearance, where the Lions advanced to the Sweet 16.

The ITA Northeast Regional Rookie of the Year also hailed from Columbia—freshman Jack Lin. Lin was recognized as a First Team All-Ivy doubles and Second Team All-Ivy singles player as a freshman. He will represent the Ivy League in the NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Doubles Championship alongside doubles partner William Matheson

Harvard’s Kenny Tao was selected as the ITA Northeast Regional Senior Player of the Year. Tao joined Broom as a First Team All-Ivy honoree in both singles and doubles, as well as a unanimous singles selection. He posted a 16-4 mark at No. 1 singles and a 13-9 record at No. 1 doubles.

Appearing in the NCAA Tournament for the second time in his career, Tao clinched a 4-2 first round upset victory over No. 17 Oklahoma State with a come-from-behind 5-7, 6-0, 6-3 win in the No. 1 singles spot over the Cowboy's No. 94-ranked Artur Dubinski. The senior also helped the Crimson claim the doubles point in the No. 1 slot with partner Logan Weber as the duo earned a 6-3 win over Oklahoma State's No. 83-ranked doubles tandem.
