NEW HAVEN, CONN. – For the third straight year, the Ivy League Tournament title belongs to the Yale Men’s Lacrosse Team defeating Brown in the championship game, 10-9, at Reese Stadium.
Yale becomes the first No. 1 seed to win the Ivy League tournament at its home field since 2011 when Cornell did so.
Yale jumped out to a 5-2 lead after the first quarter, before Brown used a 6-0 run to take an 8-5 Bears' lead at the half.
Yale junior Ben Reeves broke a 24-minute Yale scoring drought, finding the back of the net at 7:23 of the third quarter to cut the Bulldogs’ deficit to two. Matt Gaudet and Jack Tigh registered back to back goals to knot the game at, 8-8, with 1:55 left in the third quarter.
Brown’s Jack Kniffin found the back of the net with 14:04 left in the game to give the Bears a 9-8 lead. Yale evened the score on a fast break goal by Jason Alessi midway through the fourth quarter before Gaudet gave the top-seed the lead for good with 3:39 remaining when he picked up a loose ball in front of the net.
In the final minutes of the game with Brown trailing by a goal, Bears' senior All-American attackman Dylan Molloy hit the pipe twice just before time expired.
Molloy, who scored two goals, solidified his record as one of the best players in Brown history as well as the annals of NCAA lacrosse. His 318 career points are a Brown record, passing Darren Lowe’s 316 career points from 1989-92, and ranks sixth best in the NCAA record book. Molloy is also the third leading goal scorer in NCAA history with 197 career goals.
Freshman goalie Phil Goss (San Francisco, CA), the nation's leader in saves, was superb, making 10 saves, including six in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Jackson Newsome and freshman Luke McCaleb scored two goals each for the Bears.
