BRONX, N.Y. -- For the 20
th time overall, Princeton claimed the Ivy League Men’s Heptagonal Cross Country Championship, winning the title Saturday at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y.
All five of the Tigers’ top five runners finished in the top-10 as Princeton recorded 28 points to win its first title since 2014. The Tigers points total is 13
th-lowest in Ivy League history and the best score since 2012, when Princeton tallied 26. Columbia was next with 43 points, its best finish since it won the title in 2015.
Last year’s winner Penn was third with 91 points, followed by Cornell (131), Dartmouth (138), Yale (158), Brown (164) and Harvard (189).
The Lions and Tigers (and one Bulldog, oh my) combined to take the top 10 spots, led by Columbia senior
Ryan Thomas, who became the first Lion to win the individual title since Steve Sundell in 2003. Princeton then went 2-4 with senior
Noah Kauppila, sophomore
Conor Lundy and senior
Garrett O’Toole. Sophomore
Gannon Willcutts (ninth) and sophomore
Viraj Deokar (10
th) rounded out the Princeton scoring.
Columbia took fifth (
Kenny Vasbinder), seventh (
Brian Zabilski) and eighth (
Lucky Schreiner) with Yale sophomore
Trevor Reinhart placing sixth to round out the top 10.
