PRINCETON, N.J. – The Ivy League football season opened with Brown, Columbia, Dartmouth, Harvard and Yale getting in the win column.
In a week with several strong individual performances, Columbia’s Bryson Canty (offensive), Harvard’s Mitchell Gonser (defensive), Dartmouth’s Jordan Washington (special teams) and Columbia’s Keller Patterson (rookie) brought home the first weekly awards of the season.
The Lions were
named the Stats Perform FCS National Team of the Week following their 31-20 win over No. 14 Lafayette. It was the sixth all-time win against a ranked opponent in program history and the first over a top-15 since 1995.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Bryson Canty, Columbia (Sr., WR – Pfafftown, N.C.)
- Made six catches for 95 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Columbia's upset win over No. 14 Lafayette
- Both touchdowns were key, restoring two-possession leads for the Lions in the second and third quarters
- First game back after missing final seven games of 2023 season with an injury
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mitchell Gonser, Harvard (Sr., LB – Medfield, Mass)
- Led the team with seven tackles, while adding 1.0 tackles for loss, one interception and one pass breakup
- Picked off his first career pass and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown
- Matched his career high with four assisted stops
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jordan Washington, Dartmouth (Sr., DB – West Lake California)
- Blocked a Fordham field goal attempted and returned it 60 yards to the house
- Put Dartmouth ahead 31-0 in the third quarter
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Keller Patterson, (FY, DL – Keller, Texas)
- First career tackle was a sack
- Forced to play defensive tackle the entire second half after the starter left the game due to injury
- Helped hold Lafayette to 67 rushing yards in the second half
