  • Ali Truwit continued her remarkable Paralympic journey, winning her second consecutive silver medal, this time in the women's 100m backstroke S10. Truwit set another American record in the event (1:08.59), finishing just 0.62 seconds behind first place.

  • Former Yale swimmer Ali Truwit shined in her Paralympic debut, taking home a silver medal in the women's 400m freestyle S10, just one year after surviving a life-threatening shark attack. Truwit set a new American record (4:31.39) in the event.
  • Harvard's David Abrahams competed in the men's 100m breaststroke SB13 and posted a fifth-place finish.

  • Current Harvard rowing coach and Team USA para rowing coach Tom Siddall coached the PR3 4+ crew to a silver medal at the Paralympics. The finish marked Team USA's third-straight medal in the event.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 30, 2024

  • Former Columbia rower, Skyler Espinoza, a pilot for Hannah Chadwick in para cycling, posted a sixth place finish in the women's B 1000m time trial. 

SATURDAY, AUGUST 10, 2024

  • For the second consecutive Summer Olympic Games, Cornell's Kyle Dake won the bronze medal — earning it today at 74 kg. 
  • Gabby Thomas won her second gold medal in as many days and third overall of the Paris Olympics. The former Harvard great ran the third leg of the women's 4x400 relay for Team USA — cruising to a dominant win in an American record time. Thomas is the first American track and field Olympian to win three gold medals at a single Olympics since Allyson Felix. 
  • Harvard's Graham Blanks finished ninth in his first-ever Olympic final — wrapping up the men's 5000 meters in 13:18.67.

  • Harvard's Gabby Thomas claimed her second gold medal of the 2024 Paris Games — this time running the third leg of the women's 4x100 relay for Team USA. 
  • Cornell wrestling great Kyle Dake won three matches at 74 kg before falling in the semifinal round. The 4-time NCAA champion will wrestle for the bronze medal tomorrow. 
  • Two Princeton alums — Ashleigh Johnson and Jovana Sekulic — finished the Games fourth in women's water polo after Team USA fell to Team Netherlands 11-10 in the bronze medal match.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 8, 2024

  • Princeton alum Nick Mead, who along with Cornell’s Michael Grady and Harvard’s Liam Corrigan led the US to its first gold in the men’s four since 1960, was announced as a United States flag bearer for the closing ceremony. He will be alongside Katie Ledecky. Mead will not be the only Ivy serving as a flag bearer, as fellow Tiger Kathleen Noble earned the distinction for Uganda.
  • Fresh off her dominating gold medal performance in the 200m, former Harvard star Gabby Thomas and the USA women’s 4x100m team had the fastest time in the heats, finishing in 41.94. The quartet will race in Friday’s final at 1:30 p.m. ET.
  • Harvard’s Maia Ramsden set a new New Zealand national record in the semifinal of the 1500m with a time of 4.02.20 to finish eighth.
  • Columbia's Maodo Lo of Germany men's basketball and Princeton's Ashleigh Johnson and Jovana Sekulic both of the United States women's water polo team will compete for bronze medals. Germany will play Serbia at 5 a.m. ET on Saturday. The US will play the Netherlands at 4:35 a.m. ET on Saturday.

 

MEAD TO SERVE AS US FLAG BEARER FOR CLOSING CEREMONY


WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 7, 2024

  • Former Harvard rower turned cyclist Kristen Faulkner earned her second gold medal of the Olympics, in the women’s cycling team pursuit. The US topped New Zealand in the gold medal race, finishing with a time of 4:04.306.  Faulkner has been one of the top stories of the Olympics for her remarkable journey to Paris. 
  • Harvard rising senior Graham Blanks qualified for the men’s 5000m final with a time of 14:09.06, placing sixth in his heat. 
  • The league’s sailing representatives completed competition with Yale’s Stu McNay mixed dinghy boat finishing 13th and Harvard’s Sophia Montgomery placing 27th in the women’s dinghy.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 6, 2024

  • Harvard's Gabby Thomas pulled away in the 200m to win gold with a time of 21.83. Thomas was the bronze medalist in the event at the Toyko Games. She became the first American since Allyson Felix in the 2012 Games to claim gold in the event. 
  • Princeton's Lizzie Bird placed seventh in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:04.35  representing Great Britain. She bested her previous national record by over three seconds. 
  • Princeton's Ashleigh Johnson kept USA women's water polo's four-peat hopes alive with 17 saves on 21 shots faced, as the US topped Hungary 5-4 in the quarterfinal. Johnson and fellow Tiger Jovana Sekulic will play Australia on Thursday in the semifinal. 
  • Columbia's Maodo Lo and the Germany men's basketball team advanced to the semifinals with a 76-63 win over Greece. 
  • Recent Harvard graduate Maia Ramsden advanced to the 1500m semifinal, with a time of 4:02.83 to place sixth in her heat. Entering the final lap, she was 10th place, but she caught four competitors, including two in the final 100m, to advance.

MONDAY, AUGUST 5, 2024

  • Harvard alum Lisa Tertsch earned the gold medal in the mixed triathlon with her Team Germany squad. Tertsch completed a 22:41 split which positioned the Germans for the eventual gold medal in the event.
  • In the same event, Cornell's Taylor Knibb ran an event-best split to help Team USA claim the silver medal in the mixed triathlon.
  • In the 200m semifinal, Harvard's Gabby Thomas ran a blistering 21.86 and is the top seed heading into tomorrow's final.
  • Princeton pole vaulter Sondre Guttormsen finished eighth in the men's pole vault, clearing a season-best 5.80m bar.
  • Columbia's Maodo Lo and the Germany basketball team advanced to the quarterfinals

SUNDAY, AUGUST 4, 2024

  • Harvard's Kristen Faulkner won the gold medal in the women's cycling road race. It is Team USA's first win in the event since it began in 1984.
  • Former Harvard standout Gabby Thomas put up an impressive performance in her first 200 meter performance — winning her heat at 22.20 seconds.
  • Princeton's Lizzie Bird advanced to the final of the women's steeplechase for Team Great Britian, taking fourth in her heat to advance to Tuesday's final.
  • Cornell's Rudy Winkler finished just off the medal podium in the hammer throw, tossing a personal-best 77.92 meters to end up in sixth place overall.
  • Penn's Nia Akins just missed out on the 800 meter final, finishing 10th overall after clocking in at 1:58.20 in her 800 meter semifinal.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 3, 2024

  • It was another big day for Ivies at the Vaires-Sue Marne Nautical Stadium as nine more Ivies took home a medal as the Ivy League medal count skyrocketed to 24. Three rowers, all from Yale, won Gold for Team Great Britain in the men's eight including Thomas Digby, Sholto Carnegie and Charlie Elwes. Also in the men's eight and winning bronze was Brown's Henry Hollingsworth, Yale's NIck Rusher, and Harvard's Christian Tabash, Clark Dean and Pieter Quinton. In the women's eight, Yale's Maya Meschkuleit won silver with Team Canada.
  • Princeton's Sondre Guttormsen qualified for Monday's men's pole vault final, clearning the bar with a height of 5.75 meters.

  • Ivies brought home four more medals on Friday at Paris as three medaled in the men’s pair including Princeton’s Tom George and Yale’s Oliver Wynne-Griffith who won silver and Yale’s Andrin Gulich took bronze, while Yale’s Ian Barrows earned Bronze in the men’s skiff sailing race.
  • Several other Ivies posted top-10 finishes in rowing as Yale’s Dan Williamson (New Zealand) finished seventh overall in the men’s pair (first in ‘B’ final), USA’s Oliver Bub and Wyatt Allen finished 10th overall in the men’s pair (USA, fourth in ‘B’ final), Yale’s Christina Bourmpou (Greece) was sixth in the women’s pair  ‘A’ final, and Dartmouth’s Molly Reckford (USA) was sixth the lightweight women’s double sculls ‘A’ final.
  • Athletics competition began today as Cornell’s Rudy Winkler (USA) advanced to the hammer throw finals, meeting the qualification standard with his first throw of 77.29.
  • The USA women’s water polo team featuring Princeton’s Ashleigh Johnson and Jovana Sekulic continued pool play with a 17-5 win against France. Johnson had nine saves and Sekulic scored one goal.
  • USA 3x3 basketball with Princeton’s Kareem Maddox went 2-0 with wins over France (21-19) and China (21-17). In game two, Maddox had four points and 10 of USA’s 15 rebounds.

  • Ivies impressed in Paris on Thursday, bringing home eight more medals across four events. The Ivy League increased its medal count to 11 (seven gold, one silver, three bronze), the fourth-most in the NCAA. Representatives from six Ivy League institutions have now claimed a Paris 2024 Olympic medal.
  • Six Ivies won Gold on Thursday, including the USA men’s four rowing team comprised of Princeton’s Nick Mead, Cornell’s Michael Grady and Harvard’s Liam Corrigan, and the USA women’s foil fencing team comprised of Columbia’s Jackie Dubrovich, Harvard’s Lauren Scruggs and Princeton’s Maia Weintraub. The women’s foil trio helped capture the USA’s first-ever team gold medal while the men’s four group won Gold for USA for the first time since 1960.
  • Two Ivies won Bronze including Yale’s Daire Lynch (Ireland) in the men’s double sculls and Harvard’s David Ambler (Great Britain) in the men’s four.
  • Five Ivies also posted top-10 finishes in rowing including Cornell’s Sorin Koszyk in the men’s four (4th place, USA), Princeton’s Emily Kallfelz, Princeton’s Kelsey Reelick and Yale’s Daisy Mazzio-Manson in the women’s four (5th place, USA), and Kristi Wagner in women’s double sculls (9th place, USA).
  • Also in rowing, several Ivies advanced to the ‘A’ final following their performance in repechages, including Columbia’s Charlotte Buck (USA), Harvard’s Olivia Coffey (USA), Penn’s Regina Salmons (USA), Princeton’s Claire Collins (USA), Yale’s Margaret Hedeman (USA) and Yale’s Maya Meschkuleit (Canada) in the women’s eight and Harvard’s Josh Hicks (Australia) in the men’s eight.
  • Harvard’s Jessica Guo and Team Canada advanced to the Bronze medal match in the women’s foil event

  • Princeton’s Hannah Scott and the Great Britain women’s quadruple sculls team highlighted Wednesday in Paris, capturing Gold with one of the most remarkable finishes in Olympic history. Team Great Britain made a massive final push, chasing down The Netherlands and taking home Olympic Gold by a photo-finish margin of 0.15 seconds. The medal was the first of any kind for Great Britain in the event.
  • Harvard’s Lisa Tertsch started off the day with a top-10 finish in the women’s triathlon, concluding the event in ninth place with a time of 1:57.03.
  • In rowing, five boats with Ivy League ties qualified for their respective A final, including two men’s pair boats – the British combo of Princeton’s Tom George and Yale’s Oliver Wynne-Griffith as well as Yale men’s pair rower, Andrin Gulich (Switzerland). Dartmouth’s Molly Reckford advanced to the A final in women’s lightweight double sculls, and Yale’s Christine Bourmpou also moved on to the A final in the women’s pair. In addition, the USA women’s pair, coached by Princeton head rowing coach Lori Dauphiny, also qualified for the A final.
  • In sailing, Yale’s Ian Barrows finished fourth overall in the opening series (97 total points, 80 net points), advancing to the men’s skiff medal race on August 1.
  • Princeton’s Ashleigh Johnson and Jovana Sekulic and the USA women’s water polo team took down Italy in dominant fashion, moving to 2-1 in preliminary round action. Johnson made nine saves in the win for a 0.750 save percentage.
  • After five days of Olympic competition, the Ivy League is fifth out of all NCAA conferences with three total medals.
  • Harvard’s Jade Rose and the Canadian women’s soccer team’s remarkable Olympic journey will continue, as Team Canada survived Colombia, 1-0 to advance to the quarterfinals. Canada finished pool play with a 3-0 record and will begin knockout stage action on Saturday.

 

SCOTT WINS GOLD WITH GREAT BRITAIN

TUESDAY, JULY 30, 2024

  • Headlining the day was Dartmouth's Ariana Ramsey and the United States women's rugby sevens team, led by Brown alumna, Emilie Bydwell, who captured the rugby sevens bronze medal following a dramatic win in the final seconds against Australia, 14-12. The medal is the first Olympic medal of any kind for the United States women's rugby sevens team.
  • In men's double sculls, Yale's Daire Lynch (Ireland) and Cornell's Sorin Koszyk (USA) both had strong showings in the semifinal races, advancing to the Thursday's A final. Lynch's boat was the fastest time of all semifinal performances (6:13.14) while Koszyk's boat finished just behind Lynch with a time of 6:14.19. This is the first appearance in the final of the men's double sculls for USA since 2004.
  • Also in rowing, the USA women's four comprised of Princeton's Emily Kallfelz and Kelsey Reelick as well as Yale's Daisy Mazzio-Manson finished first in repechage 1, (6:32.48), qualifying for the A final on Thursday.
  • Penn swimming's Matt Fallon reached the semifinals in the men's 200 breaststroke, posting a top-10 finish in the event with a time of 2:09.96.
  • Columbia's Maodo Lo and the Germany basketball team defeated Brazil, 86-73, advancing to the quarterfinals.

DARTMOUTH'S RAMSEY, BROWN'S BYDWELL CAPTURE USA RUGBY SEVEN'S BRONZE 

  • For the first time in Olympic history, the USA women's rugby seven's team, led by former Brown rugby and hockey standout, USA Rugby head coach Emilie Bydwell, earned an Olympic medal with a stunning 14-12 win over the heavy favorite heading into the Olympic Games, Australia.
  • Trailing 12-7 with about seven seconds on the clock, Dartmouth's Ariana Ramsey made a pass to teammate Alex Sedrick near the USA's own goal line, helping set up the game-winning try.
  • The USA rugby sevens team won a total of four games in Paris, going 2-1 in pool C before advancing to the semifinals with a 17-7 win over Great Britain. After falling to the eventual gold medal winning New Zealand team in its semifinal, the USA Eagles turned around to take down Australia in the bronze medal match.

  • Dartmouth's Ariana Ramsey and the United States women's rugby team advanced to the semifinals for the first time ever following a 17-7 win over Great Britain.
  • In men's rowing, the United States' boat consisting of Brown's Henry Hollingsworth, Harvard's Clark Dean, Pieter Quinton, and Christian Tabash, and Yale's Nick Rusher recorded the fastest time (5:29.94) in the men's eight to advance to Final A.
  • Ivies continued to impress in fencing as Princeton's Mohamed Hamza advanced to the Table of 8 in men's foil.

SUNDAY, JULY 28, 2024

  • Harvard's Lauren Scruggs became the first Ivy to claim a medal in the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, taking home the silver in the women's individual foil.
  • Ariana Ramsey (Dartmouth) helped the United States women's rugby team to two wins, defeating Japan 36-7 in the morning and Brazil 24-5 in the afternoon. Ramsey scored five points against Japan.
  • Harvard's Jade Rose and the Canadian women's soccer team kept their Olympic hopes alive with a 2-1 win over France following a late stoppage time goal.

LAUREN SCRUGGS TAKES SILVER

  • In her Olympic debut, Harvard's Lauren Scruggs became the first Ivy to claim a medal in the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, taking home the silver in the women's individual foil.
  • Scruggs started her day with wins over Amita Berthier and fellow Harvard teammate Jessica Guo before earning a dramatic 15-14 win over top-seeded Arianna Errigo from Italy. Then, Scruggs defeated Canada's Eleanor Harvey before ultimately falling to USA teammate Lee Keifer in the gold medal bout.
  • With the silver medal, Scruggs becomes just the second American woman to win an individual medal in foil, joining Kiefer.

SATURDAY, JULY 27, 2024

  • In the individual competition,  three fencers reached the Table of 16 including Columbia's Anne Cebula and Princeton's Hadley Husisian in women's epee and Mitchell Saron in men's sabre.
  • Yale's Daire Lynch (rowing) alongside Philip Doyle recorded the fastest time of all three heats in the men's double sculls to advance to Tuesday's semifinals.
  • Princeton's Ashleigh Johnson and Jovana Sekulic (water polo) started off strong with an opening 15-6 win over Greece in Group B. Johnson had 10 saves while Sekulic scored two goals.

THURSDAY, JULY 25, 2024

  • Harvard's Jade Rose (football) had an impressive performance in Team Canada's 2-1 win over New Zealand in the Group C stage. Rose made her Olympic debut, starting for Team Canada on the back line.
  • Yale's Michelle Alozie (football) also made her Olympic debut, starting for Team Nigeria in a strong effort against Brazil.
  • Dartmouth's Madison Hughes (men's rugby) and Team USA advanced to the quarterfinals, defeating Uruguay, 33-17 in Pool C. Team USA went on and fell to Australia in the quarterfinals, 18-0.

PARIS BOUND

The Ivy League will continue to build upon its storied success in the Olympic Games as 114 past, present and future Ivy League athletes and coaches will compete in the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, France. The Games will begin on Friday, July 26 and last through Sunday, August 11.  
 
The Ivy League contingent includes 105 Olympians, four Paralympians and five coaches competing across 20 sports, representing all eight of the Ivy League institutions and 23 participating countries— United States (64), Great Britain (8), Canada (8), Australia (6), Nigeria (3), Norway (3), Egypt (2), Greece (2), New Zealand (2), Germany (2), Bermuda (1), Colombia (1), Denmark (1), Gambia (1), Ireland (1), Kosovo (1), Puerto Rico (1), Slovenia (1), South Africa (1), Switzerland (1), Thailand (1), Turkey (1), and Uganda (1). Each Ivy League institution has at least five representatives heading to Paris.
