PRINCETON, N.J. — The second-ever Ivy League Women’s Soccer Tournament was filled with excitement on Friday as No. 1 Princeton and No. 3 Brown advanced to Sunday’s championship game.
In the first contest of the day, No. 3 Brown defeated No. 2 Columbia, 2-1, behind goals from
Gianna De Priest and
Lexi Quinn. Columbia got the scoring started as Nata Ramirez midway through the first half with a left-footed strike from inside the box.
The Bear responded shortly after, however, as De Priest’s highlight goal in the closing moments of the first half knotted it up heading into halftime.
It didn’t take long for the scoring to resume coming out of the half as Quinn converted from the penalty spot just under a minute after the referee’s opening whistle.
From there, the Bears managed to thwart the remaining Lions’ attacks to take home the victory and await their opponent for Sunday’s championship game.
Just over an hour later, No. 1 Princeton defeated No. 4 Harvard by a score of 3-1, avenging last year’s semifinal defeat. Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year
Pietra Tordin opened the scoring from the penalty spot midway through the first half to send the Tigers into halftime with a one-goal lead.
Coming out of half, Tordin’s header from a
Drew Coomans’ cross gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead with just over 40 minutes remaining in the contest. Later in the half,
Kayla Wong added a third goal to help secure the Tigers’ victory.
In the closing minutes, Harvard’s
Áslaug Gunnlaugsdóttir got one back for the Crimson, but it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback attempt.
No. 1 Princeton and No. 3 Brown will meet up in Sunday's championship game on Sunday, November 10 at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
