PRINCETON, N.J. – No. 1 Princeton and No. 2 Harvard punched their tickets to the Ivy League tournament championship with semifinal wins on Friday. The teams will battle for the tournament title and the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.
The first semifinal between No. 1 Princeton (13-4) and No. 4 Columbia (6-10) was a defensive battle until the Tigers broke through with a goal by
Ella Cashman with under 30 seconds remaining in the first half. Princeton added three more goals in a seven-minute span in the third quarter as the Tigers captured a 4-0 win over the Lions and earned a spot in the tournament championship game for the second-straight season.
The second semifinal between No. 2 Harvard (14-3) and No. 3 Brown (9-8) was a defensive battle the entire way as neither team found the back of the net during regulation. After three chances in the overtime period, Harvard converted on a penalty corner as
Bronte-May Brough sent home a pass from Emily Guckian to propel the Crimson to Sunday’s tournament championship game, also for the second consecutive year.
The Crimson and Tigers now meet on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Cambridge, Mass. with a highly coveted automatic bid in the NCAA Tournament on the line. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
