Yale's Alozie, Bonta; Harvard's Hasbo Set to Compete at 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup

PRINCETON — Two former Ivy student-athletes and one current Ivy have been selected to represent their countries as the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup begins on July 20th in Australia and New Zealand.

Michelle Alozie and Reina Bonta will represent Nigeria and the Philippines, respectively, while Harvard's Josefine Hasbo will suit up for Denmark.

Alozie, a 2018 graduate from Yale, appeared in 49 contests for the Bulldogs between 2015 and 2018, recording 19 goals and 13 assists along the way. During her career with the Bulldogs, Alozie was an Ivy League Co-Offensive Player of the Year, a unanimous First Team All-Ivy selection, a United Soccer Coaches All-Region selection, and the top vote-getter on the First Team All-New England ballot. Alozie currently plays for the Houston Dash in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL).

Off the field, Alozie holds a bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology and works as a part–time cancer research technician at the Texas Children’s Hospital.

Bonta, a 2021 graduate from Yale, was a United Soccer Coaches All-Region and All-Ivy League selection during her time with the Bulldogs. The defender played in 57 games and started 78 percent of those appearances. She currently plays professional soccer for the Santos Futebol Clube in Brazil's Brasileirão Feminin league.

Hasbo, a current member of the Harvard women's soccer program, made the All-Ivy Second Team this past season, and has been playing with the Senior Danish Women's National Team since she was 17 years old, making her one of the youngest players to make the Danish team. She has played in six games with the Danish squad making two starts against Sweden and Japan this past April. Hasbo also scored her first national team goal last October in a World Cup Qualifier against Montenegro.
