PRINCETON, N.J. – After a season that saw four nationally ranked teams including two who made top-10 appearances, the Princeton Tigers finished atop the 2023 Ivy League preseason poll after claiming the Ivy League title a season ago.
The Tigers landed in the top spot after collecting 123 points, including 12 of the available 16 first-place votes. Princeton, who is ranked No. 10 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association preseason poll, Is coming off of a 13-5 season that included a 7-0 Ivy League mark. Harvard, who checks in at No. 13 in the preseason NFHCA Poll received 116 points and the four remaining first place votes. Harvard was 13-4 overall last season and 6-1 in the Ivy League.
Penn (88 points) and Cornell (81 points), who also spent time in the national rankings in 2022, were only separated by seven points and finished third and fourth, respectively, in the preseason rankings. Yale, Brown, Columbia, and Dartmouth rounded out the poll with the final four spots.
For the first time in Ivy League history, the Ivy League will host a field hockey postseason tournament to determine the League’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament. The four-team tournament will consist of the top-four teams from the regular season and will be hosted by the site of the No. 1 seed on Friday, November 3 and Sunday, November 5.
