Inaugural Women's Soccer Tournament Set For This Weekend in Providence, R.I.

PRINCETON, N.J. — The 2023 Ivy League Women’s Soccer Tournament is slated for this Friday and Sunday, November 3 & 5, live on ESPN+. Following an undefeated conference season, Brown earned the right to host the tournament. The tournament will take place at Stevenson-Pincince Field in Providence, R.I.

After a thrilling regular season that saw seeding came down to the final weekend, second-seeded Harvard will take on third-seeded Princeton in the opening game of the tournament at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 3. Then, top-seeded Brown takes on fourth-seeded Columbia at 5 p.m. The championship match with an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Tournament on the line is scheduled for Sunday, November 5, at 1 p.m. on ESPN+.

Ivy League women's soccer has impressed throughout the 2023 regular season as the conference leads the nation in conference winning percentage (61-32-29). Furthermore, the conference as a whole ranks as the second-strongest in the nation according to the NCAA's RPI metrics, only trailing the SEC. 

Brown enters the tournament as the number one seed and ranked fifth in the nation in the RPI. The Bears captured their fourth-straight Ivy League regular season title after a perfect 7-0 record. Overall, Brown posted a record of 11-1-2. The Bears are led by senior Brittany Raphino who leads the league in points (19) and goals (8) in Ivy League contests. Defensively, the Bears boast the top scoring defense in the league with a goals-against average of .571.

Following an overall record of 10-3-2 and an Ivy record of 5-1-1, second-seeded Harvard comes into the tournament ranked 16th in the NCAA's RPI metrics. The Crimson are led by a midfield duo of Hannah Bebar and Josefine Hasbo as the two lead a Harvard attack that ranks inside the top-15 nationally in assists per game and scoring offense.

The Tigers enter as the third seed, ranking 12th in the NCAA's RPI metrics. Princeton holds a record of 9-4-3 overall and a 4-2-1 conference record. Sophomore Pietra Tordin, who ranks inside the top-20 nationally in goals and points per game, leads the attack for the Tigers. Goalkeeper Paige Nurkin holds a save percentage of .887 in all contests, which leads the league.

Columbia comes into the tournament boasting one of the best defenses in the nation, allowing .400 goals per game in all contests which ranks fourth in the nation. The Lions (9-3-3 overall, 3-2-2 Ivy), are ranked 24th in the NCAA's RPI metrics. 

Previewing the first semifinal showdown, Harvard and Princeton played to a 1-1 draw back on October 14. On the other side of the bracket, Brown defeated Columbia 1-0 in Providence, R.I., on October 14.
