Columbia's Season Concludes in Regional Final

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Columbia baseball team’s season came to end in the NCAA regional final of the Blacksburg Regional. The third-seeded Lions fell to top-seeded Virginia Tech – the No. 4 overall team in the field of 64 – by a score of 7-2 Sunday evening.

The Lions are the third Ivy League team since 2015 to advance to the regional final. Yale advanced in 2017 and Columbia made the final in 2015.

The Lions opened the regional with an 8-2 win over the Bulldogs on Friday, propelled by a five-run fifth inning. After falling to Virginia Tech on Saturday evening, Columbia bounced back on Sunday with another win over Gonzaga. Sunday’s win marked the program’s sixth all-time win in NCAA tournament history – all of which have come under the direction of head coach Brett Boretti.

This was the Lions seventh overall appearance in the NCAA tournament and sixth since 2008.

Columbia finished its season with a record of 32-17, winning 25 of its final 30 games. The Lions claimed their 10th overall Ivy title after going 17-4 in league play.
