BLACKSBURG, Va. – The third-seeded Columbia baseball team fell to top-seeded host Virginia Tech Saturday night, 24-4.
Columbia jumped to a 2-1 lead, but the Hokies, the No. 4 overall seed in the NCAA tournament, used a 14-run fourth inning to pull away. Austin Mowrey had a good day at the plate, batting 3-for-4 at the dish.
The Lions will take on Gonzaga -- which they beat 8-2 in their first contest of the regional -- in and an elimination game Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. If the Columbia wins that tilt, it will square off again with Virginia Tech at 7 p.m.
