Princeton Coach Fred Samara Named Ivy League Coach of the Year After Achieving a Triple Crown

PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Princeton men’s head coach Fred Samara was voted Coach of the Year following the 2022 Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Track and Field championship. Samara guided Princeton to capturing the program’s 10th triple crown and fourth-consecutive outdoor title.
 
Princeton posted 11 event wins in the 22-event championship to finish almost 100 points ahead of the next contender with 231 points. Harvard placed second with 136 points and Penn rounded out the top three teams with 86 points.
 
Cornell (65), Brown (58), Columbia (39), Dartmouth (35) and Yale (29) capped off the final ledger.
 
Princeton’s Daniel Duncan was the Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Most Outstanding Performer. Duncan was part of the men’s 4sx100m relay team which set the meet record with a time of 40.11. That wasn’t his only Heps record of the day. Duncan placed first the 100m with a time of 10.17 to set a Heps and school record. He also took first in the 200m with a time of 20.95. Harvard’s Sam Welsh was voted the Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Most Outstanding Field Performer. Welsh set a meet and school record in the discuss with a heave of 63.26m. The mark is the fifth farthest throw in the NCAA this season.

Additionally, one Ivy League men’s outdoor track and field student-athlete from each institution was recognized for their commitment in the classroom and in sport as members of the 2022 Ivy League Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Academic All-Ivy team. Brown’s Jono Pelusi, Columbia’s Michael Danzi, Cornell’s Ian Frost, Dartmouth’s Myles Schreck, Harvard’s Matthew Pereira, Penn’s Marc Minichello, Princeton’s CJ Licata and Yale’s Juma Sei were each named to the team.
