NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Princeton Tigers swept both the men’s and women’s Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Track and Field titles this weekend as both programs achieved the triple crown.
For the men, the Tigers compiled a team total of 212.5 points while the women finished with a total of 202.5 points.
On the men’s side, Harvard finished second with 128 points while Penn rounded out the top three with 112. In the men’s decathlon, Penn’s
Jake Rose tallied gold with 7498 points. For the field events, Brown’s
Joseph Oduro earned gold in the triple jump (50-3 ¼) and Columbia’s
Obiora Okeke threw a meet-record 66-2 ¼ in the shot put.
Tito Alofe from Harvard won the high jump with a clearance of 7-4 ½.
Casey Helm from Princeton threw a distance of 190-10 to stand atop the podium in that event.
The 3000-meter steeplechase saw
Derek Amicon from Cornell take the gold with a time of 8:59.66, narrowly edging out Princeton’s Marcelo Parra Ramon. Harvard’s
Timi Esan,
Jonas Clarke,
Jordan Coleman and
Harlow Tong won the men’s 4x100m with a time of 40.16 and Princeton’s
Harrison Witt took gold in the 1500m (3:42.17). Other events on the men’s side saw Princeton’s
Greg Foster win the 110m hurdles (13.78) – a meet record. Overall, the Tigers either won or saw top three finishes in 13 events.
For the women, Harvard and Penn also finished second and third with 178.5 and 86 points, respectively.
Princeton’s
Julia Jongejeugd won the heptathlon with 5302 points. Teammate
Mirtel Klaar earned silver with 5243. Penn’s
Zofia Limbert won the women’s high jump at 5-8 ¾, while Harvard’s
Milina Wepiwe had a meet record best of 195-3 in the discus. Harvard’s
Molly Malague won the 3000m steeplechase (10:05.51) for her second gold medal of the weekend. Princeton saw gold in the 1500m run as
Mena Scatchard took the top spot with a time of 4:24.43.
The Tigers also saw wins in the triple jump with
Georgina Scoot (43-10),
Siniru Iheoma on the shot put (50-10 ¼) and the 4x800m team of
Stella Vieth,
Hannah Riggins,
Olivia Martin and Scatchard at 8:27.31 – a new meet record.
Shea Greene also won the javelin with a distance of 119-11.
Cornell took home the 4x100m title with a time of 45:30 from
Jada Smith,
Takiya Henson,
Natasha Redman and
Imani Reid. The 100-meter dash saw Penn’s
Fore Abinusawa win with a time of 11.39. In the women’s 5,000m – Harvard’s
Penelope Salmon earned gold with a time of 16:18.97.
Overall, the Princeton women earned a win or top three finish in 15 different events.
