PRINCETON, N.J. — Meet records were broken on day one of the Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Yale's Cuyler Athletic Complex as the Harvard men and Princeton lead the team races after the first day of competition.
In total, 10 events were medaled between the men and women. On the men's side, the Crimson took home gold medals in the hammer throw and 10,000m run while Cornell, Penn, and Princeton all earned one gold medal each as well.
Harvard's
Kenneth Ikeji successfully defended his hammer throw title with a mark of 73.47m as the top-six of the event was comprised of student-athletes from six different schools. Ikeji's teammate,
Ben Rosa, earned gold in the 10,000m, the final event of the day, finishing ahead of second-place by over two seconds at 29:52.37.
Cornell's
Eli Gault-Crabb earned his first Heps title with a clearance of 5.21m in the pole vault. Later on, Penn's
Atticus Soehren avenged his runner-up finish from a season ago with a spot atop the podium this time around with a throw of 65.54m in the javelin. Princeton's
Greg Foster earned the first gold medal of the entire meet in the long jump with a mark of 7.71m.
On the women's side, two Tigers, two Crimson, and one Big Red earned gold medals to open up the scoring.
Princeton's
Georgina Scoot (long jump) and
Shea Greene (javelin) earned gold medals for the Tigers. Greene defended her javelin title once again, making it three in a row in the event at the Ivy League Championships with a meet record throw of 53.44m. Scoot earned a meet record of her own in the long jump with a leap of 6.51m to better her runner-up finish from last season.
Cornell's
Avery Hilliard achieved a meet record in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.32m in the early goings of the day.
Harvard's
Emilia Kolokotroni and
Molly Malague earned gold medals in the afternoon for the Crimson as Kolokotroni stood atop the podium in the hammer throw with a mark of 65.60m. Malague earned the final gold medal of the day on the women's side in the 10,000m run with a time of 34:13.95.
