Women's Lacrosse All-Ivy, Major Awards Announced

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Princeton already has the regular season Ivy League champions, a No. 9 ranking, and the hosts for this weekend’s Ivy League Women’s Lacrosse Tournament on their resume, but a near sweep of the Ivy League postseason awards can be added to the achievements of this 2022 Tigers team. Princeton won Attacker, Defender, Goaltender and Coach of the Year while Cornell won Midfielder of the Year to round out the postseason awards.

Princeton senior Kyla Sears was the unanimous choice for 2022 Ivy League Attacker of the Year after compiling one of the best individual scoring seasons in the country. Sears totaled 78 points – on 53 goals and 25 assists – for the Tigers, a total which led all Ivy League players by 23 points. She was tops in the league in points per game and goals per game at 5.20 and 3.53, respectively, and was second with 1.67 assists per game.

Cornell’s Genevieve DeWinter did a little bit of everything for Cornell en route to being named Midfielder of the Year. DeWinter helped Cornell finish third in the league, totaling 39 points on 33 goals and six assists, while adding 31 ground balls, 19 draw controls and 10 caused turnovers.

Being awarded Defender of the Year unanimously, Princeton senior Marge Donovan recorded a career-high 83 draw controls, a total that led the Ivy League in 2022. Donovan registered her first career goals, assists, and points this season while also chipping in 19 ground balls and 20 caused turnovers.

Backstopping her Tigers to an undefeated Ivy League record and a 4-3 mark against top-25 teams, Sam Fish was voted Goaltender of the Year for 2022. Fish posted the highest total of saves and saves per game in the league, while also finishing second in save percentage at .454.

Wrapping-up her 36th season at the helm of the Princeton women’s lacrosse program, Chris Sailer was named the Ivy League Coach of the Year for the 2022 season. Sailer guided the Tigers to the Ivy League Regular Season Championship for a seventh-straight season and is looking to lead Princeton to their third-consecutive Ivy League Tournament Championship.

All eight Ivy League members were represented on the All-Ivy Teams in 2022. Five of the eight Ivy League schools had players selected to the First Team, while seven of the eight had players selected Second Team. Yale led the way with six total selections, followed by five from Ivy League champion Princeton, and three each from Harvard, Cornell, and Penn.

Sears, Donovan, and Fish were the Princeton representatives on the All-Ivy First Team as the Tigers were one of three teams with at least three names on the First Team, the others being Yale, who had four, and Harvard, who had three. Sears and Donovan were unanimous First Team All-Ivy selections, two of six players to be honored with that distinction by all Ivy League coaches this season. The Tigers had five All-Ivy honorees in all, as Grace Tauckus and Kate Mulham were named Second Team All-Ivy.

Yale, who finished second in the standings this year, had unanimous All-Ivy selections in attacker Olivia Markert and midfielder Tayor Lane. Joining that duo were Olivia Penoyer and Fallon Vaughn, giving the Bulldogs two attackers and two midfielders overall. Sky Carrasquillo and Ali Anderson made their way onto the All-Ivy Second Team, joining the quartet as the school’s six representatives.

Harvard midfielder, Grace Hulslander, was a unanimous choice at midfield and is joined by teammates Callie Hem and Shea Jenkins on the All-Ivy First Team for the Crimson’s honorees. The last unanimous selection was DeWinter, who was Cornell’s only First-Team All-Ivy representative for the 2022 season. The Big Red had two other players named Second Team All-Ivy as Hilary Hoover and Katie McGahan made their way on the list for defense and goaltender, respectively.

Penn defenseman Ellen O’Callaghan rounded out the All-Ivy First Team as the team’s lone top-team representative. She was one of three Quaker players honored with postseason recognition, the others being Anna Brandt and Maria Themelis.

Additionally, one student-athlete from each institution was recognized for their commitment in the classroom and on the field as members of the 2022 Ivy League Women's Lacrosse Academic All-Ivy team. Brown’s Kelsey Shea, Columbia's Rachel Graff, Cornell’s Genevieve DeWinter, Dartmouth's Emma Macaione, Harvard’s Grace Hulslander, Penn's Ellen O’Callaghan, Princeton’s Mary Murphy and Yale's Olivia Markert were each named to the team.
