Nine Ivies Set for Olympic Women's Hockey Gold Medal Match

BEIJING -- Ice hockey was the event of the day for Ivies in Beijing as Canada and Switzerland faced off in the women’s semifinals and Team USA closed out men’s preliminary rounds.
 
The Canadian women’s hockey team punched their ticket to the gold medal match after topping Switzerland, 10-3, in the semifinal round. Princeton’s Claire Thompson registered a goal and two assists and Cornell’s Brianne Jenner notched a goal and an assist. The Big Red’s Rebecca Johnston recorded three assists, while Princeton’s Sarah Fillier and Dartmouth’s Laura Stacey had one assist each.  
The women's hockey gold medal match will be against USA/FIN on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 11:10 p.m. ET.  
Over on the men’s side, Team USA defeated Germany, 3-2. Yale’s Brian O’Neill assisted the first goal and blocked a shot to preserve Team USA’s lead in the final seconds of the match.
  The men’s hockey quarterfinal rounds begins on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 11:10 p.m. ET.
