Four Ivies Selected in 2023 MLS SuperDraft

PRINCETON, N.J. – Four Ivy League senior men’s soccer student-athletes heard their name called on Wednesday evening as Yale’s Elian Haddock, Cornell’s Emeka Eneli, and Penn’s Ben Stitz and Nick Christoffersen were all selected in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft.

Yale’s Elian Haddock, a three-time first team All-Ivy goalkeeper, was selected in the first round and 21st overall in the draft to the New York Red Bulls. He compiled a 1.04 career goals against average at Yale, and as a senior this past season, posted two shutouts to go along with 51 saves. Haddock was the 2021 Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year after leading the League in goals against average (0.40), save percentage (.885) and shutouts (4).

Cornell’s Emeka Eneli was selected in the first round and 25th overall by Real Salt Lake. Eneli, who is coming off a 15-point season with the Big Red, earned unanimous first team All-Ivy and second team All-America honors this fall. Eneli played a key role in leading the 14th-seeded Big Red to an NCAA Division I Championship third round appearance. Eneli concluded his career with the Big Red with 60 points via 21 goals and 18 assists.

Penn forward Ben Stitz was taken as the second pick in the second round (31st overall) by D.C. United. He is coming off a breakout season in Philadelphia as he compiled 11 goals and 30 points, which topped all Ivy League players and was in the top-20 among all Division I players. This past season, Stitz was named to the All-Ivy second team and also captured USC All-Region second team honors.

Penn goalkeeper Nick Christoffersen, another 2022 second team All-Ivy selection, was the 25th pick in the third round (83rd overall) by CF Montréal. This past season, Christoffersen was the only Ivy League goalkeeper with a regular season goals against average under 1.000 (.752), thanks to seven total shutouts. At the conclusion of the season, Christoffersen’s goals against average of 0.77 was 23rd in the nation.

A total of 48 Ivies have been drafted in the MLS SuperDraft since its inception since 1996. The four Ivy selections were the most for the League since 2018 and tied for the second-highest total since the SuperDraft began.
