PRINCETON, N.J -- The reigning Ivy League champions, the Brown Bears, were selected as the League favorite in the 2021 Ivy League Women’s Soccer Preseason Media Poll. The poll was voted on by Ivy League sports information directors and select media.
The Bears who outright won the crown in 2019 received nine first-place votes and accumulated 113 total points. During their 2019 campaign, Brown boasted a historic season as they earned their first Ivy League title since 1994 and found themselves ranked No. 16 before they were defeated by No. 6 Florida State in the NCAA Women’s Soccer Second Round. The Bears concluded the season with 14 wins and 13 shutouts.
The League will pick up where it left off in 2019 as it was ranked the fifth-strongest conference (out of 32) in NCAA women’s soccer as demonstrated with Harvard, Princeton and Yale also receiving first-place votes.
Over the past five season, the Ivy crown has been traded between four-of-eight teams – Princeton (2015, 2017, 2018), Harvard (2016), Penn (2018) and Brown (2019).
Brown is the only Ivy to enter the season ranked. The Bears sit at No. 25 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com poll. The 2021 season gets underway on Friday, August 27, with all eight teams set to take the field.
