CHICAGO -- Former Yale standout and 2019 Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year
Aerial Chavarin was picked up by the Chicago Red Stars this afternoon in the 2020 National Women's Soccer League draft.
In her senior season, Chavarin earned Second-Team All-America honors. She was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year and unanimous first team All-Ivy selection. She started all 16 games and played 1,377 minutes. Her eight goals tied for second in the league, and she also was a defensive force, breaking up plays on the ground, winning tackles or picking off passes and winning balls in air. Chavarin helped the Bulldogs enjoy their best season on the pitch in 14 years. Yale posted its most victories since 2005 with an 11-4-1 overall record, which included a 6-1-1 home record at Reese Stadium.
Following one of the most successful women’s soccer seasons in recent history, the league finished the fifth-strongest conference in Division I women’s soccer (out of 32) and totaled the most non-conference wins (52) in league history. Ivy League champion Brown went on to make the NCAA Second Round where it pushed No. 5 Florida State in Tallahassee before falling 2-0.
