Big Performances in Big Wins Lead to Women's Soccer Weekly Awards

PRINCETON, N.J. -- After stellar opening weekends, Dartmouth sophomore Tracey Mills and Yale freshman Ellery Winkler received the first Ivy League women’s soccer weekly awards of the 2019 season.

All eight teams kicked off their campaigns over the weekend as the League raced out to a 7-5-1 record, for a winning percentage of .577. Among those seven wins are two against Power 5 opponents, while two of the losses were against top-10 ranked teams.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tracey Mills, Dartmouth (So., M – Vienna, Va.)
  • Mills led Dartmouth to a 2-0-0 week, as the Big Green handed ACC teams Pitt (2-1) and Syracuse (2-0) their first losses of the season
  • She scored the first goal of the game against Pitt, and then tallied an assist on the Big Green’s second goal in the victory over Syracuse
  • Mills also recorded eight shots, including five on goal, in the two games
  • Mills receives her first career Ivy League weekly award.
  • She is no stranger to the Ivy League, as both her brothers attended Cornell

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Ellery Winkler, Yale (Fr., F – Concord, Mass.)
  • Winkler finished the weekend with seven points on three goals and one assist
  • She netted the equalizer in the Bulldogs’ eventual 2-1 double-overtime loss at St. John’s
  • She then scored twice and assisted on the gamewinning goal against Fairfield
  • Winkler has Yale in her blood; her great uncle, Robert Gerard Peterson, is a Yale medical school graduate and great aunt, Linda Mary Nesbit Peterson, attended Yale Graduate School.
  • During high school, Winkler volunteered for Open Table, an organization that provides meals to families with food insecurity
