Ivy League Men's Soccer Showcases Depth in Preseason Poll

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Defending Ivy League men’s soccer champion Princeton has been selected to repeat after a vote by League sports information directors and select media in the 2019 Ivy Men’s Soccer Preseason Poll.

The Tigers garnered 11 of the 16 first-place votes and 121 total points to hold off Dartmouth, which has claimed three Ivy League championships in the last four years. The Big Green finished with 102 points, just ahead of Cornell (94) and 2016 co-champion Columbia (90). Yale, Penn, Brown and Harvard rounded out the rest of the poll.

A Tigers’ championship in 2019 would give them back-to-back titles for the first time in program history. Princeton finished with 16 points in 2018, just ahead of Columbia (15) and Dartmouth (14). Columbia, which reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament as an at-large team in 2016, is looking for its 11th overall title, while the Big Green hopes to return to the top of the standings after seeing its three-year streak come to an end last season.

Princeton is receiving votes in the preseason United Soccer Coaches poll. The 2019 season kicks off on Friday, Sept. 6, with all eight Ivy teams in action, featuring five contests against Power Five teams.
