Swann Earns Spot on Buck Buchanan Award Watch List

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Dartmouth senior defensive back Isiah Swann was named to the 25-player preseason watch list for the 2019 STATS FCS Buck Buchanan Award—presented annually to the most outstanding defensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).

The Buck Buchanan Award, first presented in 1995, boasts NFL stars Dexter Coakley, Rashean Mathis, Jared Allen, Arthur Moats and Kyle Emanuel among its past winners.

Swann (First Team) was 1-of-3 Ivies dubbed STATS FCS Preseason All-Americans entering the 2019 campaign.

The Queen Creek, Ariz., native is coming off a junior season in which he was a consensus All-American and the Bushnell Cup winner as Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year. Swann paced the FCS with a Dartmouth program-record nine interceptions and tallied 18 passes defended and 39 tackles a year ago.

The Buck Buchanan Award watch list will be updated throughout the 2019 season, with a national panel of over 150 sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries selecting the winner following the conclusion of the regular season.

The preseason watch list includes 10 linebackers, six defensive linemen and nine defensive backs. Swann and Penn senior linebacker Nick Miller were among the 25 finalists for the 2018 STATS FCS Buck Buchanan Award.

The 2019 Ivy League football season kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 21, with seven games to appear on ESPN linear networks throughout the season. The Ivy League is coming off a 2018 season highlighted by Princeton’s unbeaten campaign—the 13th in League history—en route to its first outright League crown since 1995. The League also led the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) in non-conference winning percentage (.750) and NFL representation (24 players) for the second-straight season.
