Men's Track & Field Breaks Records and Posts Top NCAA Marks

PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Ivy League men’s track and field teams are on high gear with multiple record-breaking performances, three weeks away from the 2019 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships, Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 23-24 at Harvard’s Gordon Track.

At the Beantown Challenge on Jan. 12, a pair of Brown athletes broke school records. Sophomore Bretram Rogers took down the 13-year-old Bears’ record in the 60-meter hurdles at 7.95 and finished second in the event, while senior Owen Russell broke his own school record and posted a throw of 71-10 ¼ in the weight throw, which currently is seventh-best in the country. Junior Zachary Lanigan, a 2018 NCAA Indoor second-team All-American, holds the 19th-fastest 800m time at 1:49:65.

Harvard sophomore sprinter Jovahn Williamson broke the school record in the 400m with a time of 47.39. Junior Donagh Mahon is tied for 14th in the high jump with a clearance of 7-1 ¾.

2018 second team All-Ivy member and Penn sophomore sprinter Marvin Morgan broke the school record in the 60m with a 6.75, tied for ninth-fastest in Ivy League history. His teammate, defending Ivy Heps indoor pole vault champion Sean Clarke, is currently 15th in the country in his signature event at 17-9, which ranks tied for third all-time in Ivy history. Last year’s runner up in the heptathlon Evan Lee holds the eighth-best score in the nation so far this season with 5,419 points.

The Princeton Tigers have three members ranked in the top 30 of their respective events. Senior Adam Kelly, the 2018 Ivy League indoor hammer throw champion, recorded a throw of 72-9 ¾ and is ranked sixth in the country. Sophomore high jumper Jeffrey Hollis, who also reached the top of the podium at last year’s Ivy Heps indoor championships, is 21st in the nation with a mark of 7-0 ½, while junior hurdler Joey Daniels is 29th in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.87, sixth-fastest all-time in Ivy League history.
