Two Ivies Claim Women's Soccer All-America Status

PRINCETON, N.J. – Two Ivies – Brown’s Sydney Cummings and Yale’s Aerial Chavarin – earned Second Team All-America honors as announced by the United Soccer Coaches Association.

The Ivy League now boasts 67 All-Americans in League history. Cummings becomes the Bears’ 10th All-American in program history and the first to earn the honor since 2000. Chavarin becomes just the third Bulldog to earn All-America recognition and the first since 2005.

Cummings – A three-time All-Ivy selection – helped lead the Bears to a historic season in which the team earned its first Ivy League title and NCAA appearance since 1994. In 2019, Brown set program records for wins in a season (14), home wins in a season (11), and shutouts in a season (13). Cummings played a critical role in helping the Bears tally 13 shutouts in 2019, the most clean sheets in program history. Cummings played a critical role in helping the Bears tally 13 shutouts in 2019, the most clean sheets in program history.

Chavarin was the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year and unanimous first team All-Ivy selection. She started all 16 games and played 1,377 minutes. Her eight goals tied for second in the league, and she also was a defensive force, breaking up plays on the ground, winning tackles or picking off passes and winning balls in air. Chavarin helped the Bulldogs enjoy their best season on the pitch in 14 years. Yale posted its most victories since 2005 with an 11-4-1 overall record, which included a 6-1-1 home record at Reese Stadium.

Following one of the most successful women’s soccer seasons in recent history, the league finished the fifth-strongest conference in Division I women’s soccer (out of 32) and totaled the most non-conference wins (52) in league history.
