PRINCETON, N.J. – Eight Ivy League student-athletes were among the 264 division I men’s soccer players named to the
2019 United Soccer Coaches All-Region Teams. Yale, the 2019 Ivy League Champions, lead the League with four All-Region honorees, while Princeton earned two honors and Cornell and Penn had one a piece.
On the First-Team, Yale was represented by
Mark Winhoffer and
Miguel Yuste, with Princeton’s
Walker Gillespie was one of two freshmen named to the team.
Winhoffer, the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year, finished his season as the league leader with 23 points (6 goals, 11 assists). His 11 assists are sixth in the nation and one shy of Craig Yacks' school record set in 1997. Yuste, a senior and a first team All-Ivy selection, led the league with eight goals, including three game winners. He also was second in the league with 20 points. Gillespie, a first-team All-Ivy honoree, scored a team-best seven goals including one against No. 22 Virginia Tech as Princeton beat a top-25 team for the second straight year.

Enzo Okpoye were selected to the second-team.
A two-time team captain, Scearce is coming off a season in which he led the team in goals (5) and tied for the team-high in points (11). O'Toole, the 2018 Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year, earned his second first-team recognition after scoring three goals and assisting on four others in 2019. Okpoye, a sophomore, anchored a defense that allowed just 14 goals in 18 games. He also was a contributor on the offensive end, finishing with five goals, including three game winners.
Penn’s
Alex Touche and Yale’s
Ryan Matteo earned third-team recognition. Touche, the 2019 Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, anchored the Quakers’ back line, helping the team to post three shutouts and allow just five goals in seven Ivy matches.Matteo, a senior, registered five assists to rank third on the team. He earned second team All-Ivy honors.
The teams are selected through voting by member coaches in those respective divisions. Student-athletes earning First Team All-Region honors are now eligible to earn All-America status. The NCAA Division I Men's All-America Team will be announced on Thursday evening, Dec. 12.
