PRINCETON, N.J. – After clinching its first Ivy League women’s soccer title since 1994, Brown swept the weekly awards with Abby Carchio and Rachyl Francisco being named Player and Rookie of the week, respectively.
The Bears also locked up the league’s automatic NCAA Tournament berth and can win the league outright with a win or tie in the regular season finale this Saturday vs. Yale.
The league is currently enjoying one of its most successful seasons in recent history, currently ranked fifth in the NCAA conference RPI and several teams in the running for at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Abby Carchio, Brown (Sr., M – Lakeville, Mass.)
- Scored the game-winning goal in Brown’s 1-0 (2OT) win over Penn to clinch a share of the Ivy League title and NCAA automatic berth
- Fifth game-winning goal of her career
- Third goal of the 2019 season
- Was a First Team All-Ivy recipient last season
- Holds a second-degree black belt Tae Kwon Do
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Rachyl Francisco, Brown (Fr., D – San Jose, California)
- Played in 107 minutes of the 110-minute double-overtime shutout win vs. Penn (missed three minutes due to blood)
- Helped Brown record its 11th shutout of the season, just one clean sheet short of the program record
- Played a major role in the Bears posting their fourth shutout in Ivy League play this season
- Brown ranks second in the NCAA in fewest goals allowed and third in save percentage
- Played to do a concentration in Biology at Brown
