Harvard's Aiken Named to Naismith Trophy Watch List

ATLANTA – Adding to his list of preseason honors, Harvard senior guard Bryce Aiken has been named to the Citizen Naismith Trophy Watch List, as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.

Aiken, who was one of four mid-major players to be named to the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year watchlist, is one of 50 players nationwide to earn a selection to the watch list, and is the only one represented from the Ivy League.

The Ivy League heads into the 2019-20 campaign ranked the 10th-best Division I men’s basketball with seven of the eight Ivies hitting the hardwood on Tuesday, Nov. 5. The Crimson welcome MIT to begin the season.

Aiken, a two-time first-team All-Ivy recipient, helped Harvard to its seventh Ivy League title in nine years in 2018-19, including its second in a row. Aiken averaged 22.2 points per game in his junior campaign, which is the third highest mark in program history. The guard put together four of the top-17 single-game scoring marks in program history, including 44 against Columbia a season ago, which is the second-highest tally, and 38 against Yale in the championship game of Ivy League tournament. Aiken registered 19 points as Harvard defeated Georgetown to win its first National Invitational Tournament (NIT) game in program history before falling to NC State, 78-77, in the second round.

The Randolph, New Jersey native was a Lou Henson All-America, USBWA All-District first team and NABC All-Region second team honoree as a junior.

The Citizen Naismith Trophy is awarded annually to the men's player of the year in college basketball. The 50 nominees will be reduced to 30 in February, with the award itself set to be presented on April 5, 2020.
