PRINCETON, N.J. – No. 25 Yale will make its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2005 when the Bulldogs travel north to take to Boston College. The game is set for Nov. 21 at 7 p.m., at Newton Campus Soccer Field. The game will be available on ACC Network.
Yale is looking for its first win in postseason play at since posting a 2-1 overtime victory at Rutgers in 1999. The winner will advance to take on sixth-seeded Washington in Seattle.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
- AWARD SEASON – Following another successful Ivy League men’s soccer season, the All-Ivy and major awards were announced. 2019 Ivy League Champion No. 25 Yale collected two major awards including the Offensive Player of the Year to junior midfielder Mark Winhoffer while head coach Kylie Stannard was unanimously named Coach of the Year. Penn junior defender Alex Touche was named Defensive Player of the Year while Columbia freshman midfielder Uri Zeitz grabbed Rookie of the Year honors.
- HISTORY IN THE MAKING – No. 25 Yale, the 2019 Ivy League Champion, is having one of its most successful season in recently years. The Bulldogs have racked up a total of 13 wins, matching the 1999 team for most wins in school history, while the six conference victories match the 1989 team record for most wins in Yale history. Yale's .824 winning percentage (13-2-2 overall record) is 13th best in the nation.
- DOMINANT DEFENSE – The Bulldogs have yielded just 11 goals in 17 games and are 10th in the nation in team goals against average at 0.618. Boston College has been shutout just three times this season. Goalkeeper Elian Haddock is ninth in the nation in save percentage (.820) and 14th in goals against average (0.624).
- SPREAD THE WEALTH – Mark Winhoffer, 2019 Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year, paces the team with 23 points on six goals and 11 assists. Winhoffer ranks fifth in the nation with 11 assists and is one helper shy of Craig Yacks’ school record set in 1997.
POSTSEASON SUCCESS – No. 25 Yale, one of 24 automatic qualifiers, will look for its first postseason play since 1999. The Ivy League has won 13 NCAA tournament games over the last decade, including four third-round appearances.
