Agnew, Raphino Lead Their Teams to Key Ivy Victories and Women’s Soccer Weekly Awards

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Harvard junior Murphy Agnew and Brown freshman Brittany Raphino led their teams to key wins and Ivy League women’s soccer weekly honors as the race to the 2019 title comes down to the wire.
 
The Ivy League is now fifth out of 32 in the NCAA conference RPI, trailing the Pac 12, ACC, SEC and Big 12 and ahead of the Big 10. Brown improved to 5-0-0 in Ivy League play with a 2-0 win over Cornell (0-5-0 Ivy), marking the Bears’ sixth-straight win and fourth shutout in their last five games. Harvard (4-1-0 Ivy) and Yale (4-1-0 Ivy) remained three points behind Brown in the standings with wins over the defending Ivy champions, Princeton (1-3-1 Ivy) and Penn (2-3 Ivy), respectively. Columbia (2-1-2) and Dartmouth (0-4-1) settled for a 1-1 draw in the fourth game this weekend.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Murphy Agnew, Harvard (Jr., M – New Hope, Pa.)
  • Agnew scored both of Harvard’s goals in a 2-1 win over defending Ivy League champion Princeton
  • Her four points matched a career-high, which she as accomplished three times in 2019
  • She helped Harvard keep pace with Brown and remain just three points back in the standings
  • The 2017 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, Agnew is named Player of the Week for the second time in the last three weeks
  • Agnew comes from a family of soccer players, as her father played at USC and her uncle played at Stanford
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Brittany Raphino, Brown (Fr., F – Randolph, Mass.)
  • Raphino finished with seven points on three goals and one assist in two games last week
  • She scored the gamewinner and assisted on the insurance goal in Brown’s 2-0 win over Vermont
  • She then helped the Bears remain unbeaten and untied in Ivy League play, scoring both goals in her team’s 2-0 win at Cornell
  • Raphino, who was an All-American as a junior in high school and a preseason USA Today National All-American as a senior, is named Rookie of the Week for the second time this season
  • She has career aspirations of becoming a Pediatric Neurophysiologist
