Harvard's Sam Brown Selected in First Round as Five Ivies are Taken in the MLS SuperDraft

CHICAGO -- For the second-straight year, an Ivy League men’s soccer standout was taken in the first round of the MLS SuperDraft.

Harvard’s Sam Brown was selected with the 17th overall pick by Real Salt Lake, one year after Dartmouth’s Wyatt Omsberg was chosen by Minnesota United with the 15th overall pick.

Columbia’s Dylan Castanheira, Dartmouth teammates Eduvie Ikoba and Justin Donowa, and Princeton’s Sean McSherry all joined Brown in hearing their names called, as the Ivy League matched a conference-record for most Ivies taken in a single draft, previously set in 2004.

A total of 40 Ivies have been drafted in the MLS SuperDraft since its inception in 1996. The Ivy League extended its streak of seeing at least two players drafted to four-straight SuperDrafts, and at least one taken to 12-consecutive.

Brown, the 2014 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, earned two All-Ivy accolades during his career and finished with three goals and 12 assists from his defensive position.
