Yale Claims First Men's Golf Title Since 2011

FINAL RESULTS

ELVERSON, Pa. -- Yale shot a tournament-best round 282 on the final day of the Ivy League Men’s Golf Championship to pull away from Harvard for the title, Sunday at the Stonewall Golf Club in Elverson, Pa.
 
The Bulldogs, who entered the third round in a tie for first-place with the Crimson, carded a three-day score of 880 (300-288-282) to win its first team title since 2011. Yale also posted the best margin of victory since 2005, when Princeton bested second-place Cornell by 31 strokes.
 
Harvard slipped into third-place after a third-round score of 305 to finish with an overall tally of 903 (306-292-305). Dartmouth began the day in sixth-place but finished in second thanks to a 283 on the day, giving the Big Green a final score of 902 (317-302-283), and its best placement since 2016.
 
Cornell (303-303-298—904) placed fourth, followed by Penn (301-310-295—906), Brown (314-304-300—918), Princeton (319-302-300—921) and Columbia (332-308-304—944).
 
On the individual side, for the fifth time in its history and first since 2014 at Baltusrol, the Ivy League title was decided by a playoff. Fellow Bulldogs Eoin Leonard (75-75-69) and James Nicholas (76-75-68) each carded a 219, and Leonard defeated his teammate in two holes to become the first Yale individual winner since Brian Kim in 2003. It also marked the second-ever time that teammates participated in a playoff, as Princeton’s Judd Pritchard bested Ben McConahey in 1997.
 
For the seventh time in its program’s history, Yale claimed the team and individual titles at the same championship, the 22nd Ivy team to accomplish the feat and first since Princeton in 2013.
 
With the victory, Yale takes the Ivy League automatic qualifier berth to the NCAA Championships. The selection show takes place May 2 at 5:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Golf Channel.
