WORCESTER, Mass. -- Cornell and Yale claimed the Ivy League men’s rowing lightweight and heavyweight titles, respectively, winning those events at the Eastern Association of Rowing College (EARC) Sprints Championships in Worcester, Mass.
LIGHTWEIGHT
The No. 1 Cornell men's lightweight rowing team won the varsity eight race to take home the Joseph Wright Trophy and the Ivy League crown, its 11th Ivy League championship in program history. The Big Red has also earned 12 Wright Trophies as the varsity eight winner. Cornell's first Wright Trophy, in 1949, was awarded prior to the formation of the Ivy League.
HEAVYWEIGHT
The top-seeded Yale heavyweights, meanwhile, won its third-straight EARC Sprints Championship and Ivy League title in program history, edging second seed Harvard by less than half a second, one of the closest races in Sprints history. It marked the Bulldogs’ ninth overall Ivy League heavyweight title.
The Ivy teams will now get ready for the IRA National Championship, to be held in Sacramento, Calif., from June 2-4.
