PRINCETON, N.J. -- Harvard senior forward Midge Purce and Princeton senior forward Tyler Lussi earned All-America nods from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), while nine Ivies received All-Region recognition.
Purce, who earned her second Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year nod in 2016, was named to the 2016 NSCAA NCAA Division I Women's All-America First Team. The Olney, Md., native led the Ivy League with 12 goals and 28 points on the season, while helping Harvard to its 13th Ivy League title with an unbeaten 5-0-2 mark in League play. She became the 20th four-time First Team All-Ivy honoree with her 2016 nod and was recently named a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy, the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer. Purce is the Crimson's fourth First Team All-America selection in program history—and their first since Emily Stauffer and Naomi Miller were named to the First Team in 1996. This is Purce's second All-America nod, after earning Third Team recognition as a freshman in 2013. The forward leaves Harvard in third place in the Crimson career record books with 42 goals.
Lussi was named to the 2016 NSCAA NCAA Division I Women's All-America Third Team, after earning a Second Team nod a year ago. The Lutherville, Md., native finished second in the League with 10 goals and 24 points—behind Purce—and became the 45th three-time First Team All-Ivy honoree with her 2016 award. Lussi is Princeton's fifth multi-time All-America honoree, joining Kelly O'Dell, Lynette Prescott, Linda DeBoer and Esmeralda Negron. The forward leaves Princeton as the program record holder with 53 career goals and 122 career points.
Lussi and Purce are two of the most prolific scorers in Ivy League history, ranking fourth and seventh, respectively, in the League in career goals scored. The duo has also combined for four-straight Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year awards with Lussi winning in 2014 and 2015 and Purce earning the honor in 2013 and 2016.
Both Lussi and Purce were named to the 2016 NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team, where they were joined by sophomore goalkeeper Christine Etzel of Brown, senior midfielder Carly Gould of Brown and sophomore midfielder Remy Borinsky of Dartmouth. All five student-athletes were First Team All-Ivy honorees in 2016, with Purce, Etzel and Gould earning unanimous selections. Etzel was also a unanimous selection as Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, after anchoring the Bear defense with a League-leading .921 save percentage and .36 goals against average.
Junior defender Maclaine Lehan of Brown, senior defender Paige Lombard of Penn, senior defender Jesse McDonough of Princeton and freshman forward Aerial Chavarin of Yale were tabbed as members of the 2016 NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team. Each of the four selections were First Team All-Ivy honorees in 2016.
