Five Ivies Earn Wins in Week 3

PRINCETON, N.J. – Five Ivy League football teams earned victories during Week 3, with Princeton and Dartmouth opening league play with wins and Cornell, Harvard and Yale picking up non-conference victories.
 
No. 20 Harvard delivered the weekend’s most insane finish, topping No. 22 Colgate, 20-17, on a touchdown as time expired. After Colgate took a 17-14 lead with 27 seconds remaining, the Crimson drove 75 yards in six plays. Charlie Smith’s final throw was caught by Teigan Pelletier at the Colgate 6-yard line before Pelletier lateraled to Nathan Bailey, who reached the end zone for the game-winning touchdown.
 

Princeton ran past Columbia, 35-7, behind a four-touchdown performance from Kai Honda, while Dartmouth rallied for a 14-10 win over Penn. Cornell rolled to a 35-14 road victory over Georgetown and Yale overcame a 21-7 deficit to top Merrimack, 41-24.
 
A league-wide moment of silence was observed prior to all Ivy League football home games in remembrance of former Yale head coach Tony Reno, who passed away Friday. Dante Reno – Tony’s son and Yale’s starting quarterback – led the Bulldogs’ comeback with 337 yards of total offense and four touchdowns.
 
YALE 41, MERRIMACK 24
12 p.m. // New Haven, Conn. // Yale Bowl
  • Yale (2-1, 0-1 Ivy) erased a 21-7 first-half deficit and scored 34 of the game’s final 37 points to defeat Merrimack, 41-24. The Bulldogs scored the final 17 points after the game was tied at 24 entering the fourth quarter.
  • Dante Reno threw for 298 yards and four touchdowns and added 39 rushing yards.
  • Jaxton Santiago recorded five receptions for 100 yards and two touchdowns while adding 92 yards on six punt returns. Lucius Anderson added seven catches for 116 yards.
  • Hugo Djeumeni Kemeni rushed 30 times for 132 yards and a touchdown, while Noah Piper went 2-for-2 on field goals and 5-for-5 on extra points.

PRINCETON 35, COLUMBIA 7
12 p.m. // New York, N.Y. // Robert K. Kraft Field at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium
  • Princeton (2-1, 1-0 Ivy) opened league play with a 35-7 road victory over Columbia (2-1, 0-1 Ivy). The Tigers rushed for 245 yards and averaged 8.1 yards per play.
  • Kai Honda rushed for 219 yards and four touchdowns on just 14 carries, averaging 15.6 yards per attempt. His touchdown runs covered 40, seven, 53 and 70 yards. Honda became the second FCS player this season to rush for 200 yards and four touchdowns in a game, joining Montana’s Eli Gillman.
  • Princeton’s defense recorded four sacks and held Columbia scoreless after Bryce Coleman’s second-quarter touchdown tied the game at 7-7. Torian Roberts finished with six tackles, two pass breakups and an interception.
  • Brady Clark averaged 55.5 yards on four punts, with three traveling 50-plus yards and a long of 66.

RHODE ISLAND 13, BROWN 10
12 p.m. // Pawtucket, R.I. // Centreville Bank Stadium
  • Brown (1-2, 0-1 Ivy) took a 10-3 lead early in the fourth quarter before Rhode Island scored the final 10 points, including a 43-yard field goal with 11 seconds remaining.
  • James Murphy threw for 271 yards, while Matt Childs posted 101 yards from scrimmage with 37 rushing and 64 receiving.
  • Max Malo recorded a game-high 19 tackles, while Tommy Dunn had four tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

CORNELL 35, GEORGETOWN 14
12:30 p.m. // Washington, D.C. // Cooper Field
  • Cornell (2-1, 1-0 Ivy) posted 493 yards of offense in a 35-14 road victory over Georgetown, earning its second consecutive win.
  • Garrett Bass-Sulpizio accounted for 314 yards of total offense and four touchdowns, completing 20-of-27 passes for 279 yards and two scores while rushing for 35 yards and two touchdowns. He did not throw an interception or take a sack. 46626
  • Samuel Musungu caught six passes for 91 yards and two touchdowns, with both scores coming in the third quarter. 46626 46626
  • The Big Red defense recorded five sacks. Johnny Williamson contributed eight tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss, a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry.

DARTMOUTH 14, PENN 10
1:30 p.m. // Hanover, N.H. // Buddy Teevens Stadium at Memorial Field
  • Dartmouth (1-2, 1-0 Ivy) rallied for its first win of the season, topping Penn (1-2, 0-1 Ivy), 14-10, in the Ivy opener.
  • After Penn took a 10-7 lead with 8:47 remaining, Dartmouth answered with an eight-play, 75-yard drive capped by Myles Craddock’s two-yard touchdown with 4:55 to play.
  • Craddock rushed 21 times for 85 yards and the deciding touchdown, while Grayson Saunier completed 13-of-15 passes for 173 yards and a score.
  • Johnny Stephens paced the Dartmouth defense with 13 tackles and a tackle for loss.

NO. 20 HARVARD 20, NO. 22 COLGATE 17
7 p.m. // Cambridge, Mass. // Tim Murphy Field at Harvard Stadium
  • No. 20 Harvard (3-0, 1-0 Ivy) scored 13 fourth-quarter points to top No. 22 Colgate, 20-17, and remain unbeaten. The Crimson finished with 462 yards of total offense, including 369 through the air.
  • After Colgate took a 17-14 lead with 27 seconds remaining, Harvard drove 75 yards in six plays before scoring on the final play of regulation. Charlie Smith connected with Teigan Pelletier near the goal line, and Pelletier lateraled to Nathan Bailey for the game-winning touchdown.
  • Smith completed 31-of-45 passes for 369 yards and two touchdowns. Bailey hauled in 16 receptions for 197 yards and the game-winning score.
  • Harvard’s defense intercepted two passes, with Jack Donahoe and Xaden Benson each recording a pick. Dorsey Benefield led the Crimson with 12 tackles.
