Ivies in Milano Cortina: 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games

SEVEN IVIES EARN MEDALS IN WOMEN'S ICE HOCKEY

  • Team USA women's ice hockey defeated Team Canada, 2-1 in an overtime thriller as Cornell's Rory Guilday took home gold with Team USA.
  • Team Canada captured silver, featuring Cornell's Brianne Jenner and Kristin O'Neill, Dartmouth's Laura Stacey, Harvard's Emerance Maschmeyer, and Princeton's Sarah Fillier and Claire Thompson
  • Canada's first goal of the game was scored by Cornell's O'Neill, assisted by Dartmouth's Stacey. The goal came shorthanded in the second period.

SUCCESS ON THE SLOPES

  • Dartmouth's Kyle Negomir finished in 10th place in the alpine skiing men's downhill race, the top Team USA finisher in the event (Feb. 7)
  • Harvard's Tess Johnson and Columbia's Olivia Giaccio finished in ninth and 10th place, respectively, in the freestyle skiing women's moguls on February 11.
  • Columbia's Bea Kim posted a top-10 finish in her Olympic debut, finishing in eighth in the women's snowboard half pipe (Feb. 12)
  • Individually, Dartmouth's John Steel Hagenbuch finished in 14th out of 113 competitors in the men's cross country skiing 10km interval start free (Feb. 13) and was the top finisher for Team USA in the event.
  • Three Dartmouth skiers, Team USA's Julia Kern and Rosie Brennan as well as Canada's Jasmine Drolet, posted impressive top-10 finishes in the women's 4 x 7.5 km relay (Feb. 14). Kern and Brennan finished in fifth place for Team USA, while Drolet finished in eighth place for Canada.
  • Johnson and Giaccio also went back-to-back with two additional top-10 finishes in the freestyle skiing women's dual moguls (Feb. 14), as Johnson finished in fifth and Giaccio was sixth.
  • Two Ivies finished in the top-10 in the men's 4 x 7.5 km relay as Hagenbuch followed his performance with another top-10 finish as he finished in sixth place in the men's 4 x 7.5 km relay (Feb. 15) while Harvard's Rémi Drolet finished in fifth place for Team Canada in the same race.
  • After capturing Gold in the men's team combined alpine skiing competition, Dartmouth's Tanguy Nef had a sixth-place finish in the men's slalom, less than one second away from a medal position (Feb. 16)
  • Julia Kern also finished in fifth place in the Cross Country Skiing women's team sprint free (Feb. 18).

CANADA AND USA SET FOR GOLD MEDAL MATCH

  • Team Canada, with six Ivies on the roster, defeated Switzerland in the semifinals, 2-1, to advance to Thursday's gold medal match. Canada is hoping to repeat as gold medalists, after doing the same in the 2022 Olympics in Beijing.
  • Trying to prevent the repeat is Team USA, who fell to Canada in the 2022 Olympics gold medal match. Cornell's Rory Guilday is featured on a United States side that defeated Sweden, 5-0, to advance to the gold medal match.

SEVEN IVIES TO PLAY FOR A MEDAL IN WOMEN'S ICE HOCKEY COMPETITION

  • Team Canada delivered another dominant performance, defeating Germany 5–1 in the quarterfinals. The Ivy League contingent once again made its presence felt, as Cornell’s Brianne Jenner and Princeton's Claire Thompson and Sarah Fillier accounted for the game’s first three goals to stake Canada to a 3–0 lead. Cornell's Kristin O’Neill and Fillier each added assists in the win. Canada now advances to the semifinals, where it will face Switzerland at 3:10 p.m. ET on Monday, February 16.
  • Team USA women's ice hockey, featuring Cornell defenseman Rory Guilday, posted a 6-0 win over Italy. The Red, White and Blue is set to take on Sweden in the semifinals at 10:40 a.m. ET on Monday, February 16. 

 

MAKING A POINT

  • All five Ivy League athletes who saw ice time recorded a point as Canada earned a 5–1 victory over Czechia on February 9. Kristin O’Neill (Cornell), Sarah Fillier (Princeton) and Laura Stacey (Dartmouth) each scored a goal, while Brianne Jenner (Cornell) led the team with two assists. Claire Thompson (Princeton) added one assist.
  • Harvard’s Kristin Della Rovera and Cornell’s Laura Fortino scored as Italy edged Japan, 3–2. The win secured Italy a spot in the quarterfinals.
  • Rory Guilday helped lead Team USA to a dominant 5–0 shutout of Switzerland.

NEF IS GOLDEN 

  • Dartmouth’s Tanguy Nef claimed gold on Monday in the Alpine Skiing Men’s Team Combined, teaming with Franjo von Allmen to lift Switzerland to the top of the podium. The duo posted a winning time of 2:44.04, highlighted by Nef’s 51.82 second slalom run, the fastest in the field.

HOT START CONTINUES

  • The Canadian women's hockey team — with six former Ivies on the roster — got off to a hot start in group play with a 4-0 win over Switzerland. Princeton's Sarah Fillier scored a goal while her fellow Tiger, Claire Thompson, recorded two assists.
  • Dartmouth's Kyle Negomir placed 10th in the men's downhill skiing, finishing as the top American in the event with a time of 1:53.20.
  • Cornell's Rory Guilday helped the United State women's hockey team to yet another victory, this one being a 5-0 win over Finland.

OFF TO A HISTORIC START

  • The Italy women’s hockey team -- which features Brown’s Jacquie Pierri, Cornell’s Laura Fortino and Harvard’s Kristin Della Rovere -- won its first-ever Olympic game with a 4-1 victory over France. Della Rovere led Italy with two points on a goal and an assist, while Fortino, an alternate captain, finished the game +3.
  • The United States women’s hockey team also opened group play with a win, defeating Czechia 5–1. The U.S. roster includes Cornell’s Rory Guilday, while Czechia features Dartmouth’s Michaela Hesová.
