Poulakidas, O’Keefe Earn Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors

PRINCETON, N.J. – Following a week with several career performances, Yale’s John Poulakidas (player) and Columbia’s Gerard O’Keefe (rookie) earned Ivy League men’s basketball weekly honors.
 
Behind a career-high 32-point outburst, Poulakidas led Yale to a 103-88 win over Cornell, in a contest between the top two teams in the standings. Bez Mbeng also contributed a 15-point, 12-assist, 10-rebound triple-double, while teammate Nick Townsend scored a career high 25 points, shooting 11-of-13 from the field. O’Keefe helped Columbia overcome a 15-point second-half deficit, shooting 89 percent from the field with his lone miss coming from 3-point range.   
 
At the midway point of Ivy play, Yale (7-0) has a two-game cushion over Cornell (5-2) and Princeton (5-2) in the standings. Dartmouth (4-3) has a two-game advantage over Brown (2-5), Harvard (2-5) and Penn (2-5). Columbia (1-6) picked up a much-needed win to stay in the race. The top four teams will earn a spot to Ivy Madness. The Ivy League men’s and women’s basketball tournaments will be held at Brown’s Pizzitola Sports Center in Providence from March 14-16. Full information is available at IvyMadness.com.
