Bulldogs Historic Run Ends In NCAA Tournament Second Round

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Yale men’s basketball team’s postseason run came to a conclusion in the NCAA tournament second round, as the Bulldogs fell to last season’s national runner-up San Diego State 85 -57.

The Bulldogs finished the season with a record of 23-10, highlighted by 78-76 first round win over Auburn on Friday. Since 2010, the Ivy League won eight NCAA men’s tournament games.

“Every coach says, but I know it’s true, I can’t be prouder of these young men,” Yale head coach James Jones said.

Bez Mbeng (12 points) and Matt Knowling (11) both scored in double figures for the Bulldogs. Danny Wolf finished with a game-high 10 rebounds and five assists.

San Diego St. connected on a season-high 13 3-pointers. The Aztecs shot 52.7 percent from the field, 48.1 percent from 3-point range and 82.4 percent from the foul line. First Team All-Mountain West selection Jaedon LeDee posted a game-high 26 points.

This marks the end of an historic season for Ivy League men’s basketball. For just the second time in Ivy League history three men’s teams earned spots in the top two postseason season tournaments, as Cornell and Princeton earned at-large bids to the NIT.
