Princeton Wins Three Races, Remains on Top After Day 2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Princeton Tigers built on their Day One lead with three more wins and two record-setting swims on the second day of action at the 2024 Ivy League Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center on the campus of Brown University.
 
University of Pennsylvania senior Anna Kalandadze kicked off the evening with an NCAA ‘A’ cut time of 4:37.21 to win the 500-Yard Freestyle, finishing nearly five seconds ahead of the next closest swimmer.
 
The first win of the night for Princeton University came in the 200-Yard I.M. as freshman Dakota Tucker took the win with an NCAA ‘B’ standard time of 1:56.77. Senior teammate Margaux McDonald was the runner up with a ‘B’ cut time of her own, reaching the wall in 1:56.96.
 
In the 50-Yard Freestyle, Princeton’s Sabrina Johnston established a new pool record with a swim of 22.07, while teammate Ela Noble claimed second place with a time of 22.13, also good enough for an NCAA ‘A’ cut. Brown’s Samantha Scott had her own ‘B’ standard time of 22.44 in the finale to finish third in the race.
 
Harvard University’s Nina Janmyr was the top performer in the 1-Meter Diving competition, finishing with a score of 289.30, narrowly edging out teammate Remie Edvalson who had a finals score of 286.20.
 
Thursday’s competition concluded with a win in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay from Princeton’s team of Johnston, Noble, Heidi Smithwick and Isabella Korble who reached the wall  in 1:29.03, besting the old Ivy League Championship record of 1:29.22 set at last year’s meet.
 
The third day of action begins on Friday with prelims beginning at 11:00 a.m. followed by the finals at 6:00 p.m.
