PRINCETON, N.J. – Columbia and Dartmouth each started Ivy League football play with wins on Saturday. Harvard and Yale both picked up on non-league wins this weekend.
The Lions earned their first win over Princeton since 2017 and first at home since 2010. The win for Dartmouth came after the Big Green
rededicated its stadium as Buddy Teevens Stadium at Memorial Field in a ceremony on Friday evening.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4
HARVARD 28, #16 NEW HAMPSHIRE 23
7 p.m. // Cambridge, Mass. // Harvard Stadium
- Harvard (2-1) bounced back with a 28-23 win over No. 16 New Hampshire (3-2), snapping the Wildcats’ three-game win streak.
- Running back Xaviah Bascon rushed for two touchdowns and 66 yards on 16 attempts. Quarterback Jaden Craig threw for 204 yards and had two completions over 50 yards on scoring drives.
- Linebacker Eric Little had a team-high 11 tackles and forced a fumble.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5
COLUMBIA 34, PRINCETON 17
12 p.m. // New York, N.Y. // Robert K. Kraft Field at Lawrence A. Wein Stadium
- Columbia (2-1, 1-0) used a strong second half to pulled away from Princeton (1-2, 0-1) 34-17.
- Lions running back Joey Giorgi rushed for 157 yards on 18 attempts, just two yards shy of his career high. Quarterback Chase Goodwin threw for 210 yards and a touchdown on 19-for-30 passing. Receiver Edan Stagg had six catches for 99 yards. Defensive back Hayden McDonald snagged two interceptions and a team-leading seven tackles.
- Princeton wide receiver AJ Barber had a game-high seven receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown.
YALE 23, CENTRAL CONNECTICUT STATE 22
12 p.m. // New Haven, Conn. // Yale Bowl
- Yale (2-1) held on to top in-state foe Central Connecticut State (2-3) 23-22 in its home-opener.
- Running back Josh Pitsenberger rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown on 19 attempts. Quarterback Jordan Grant was 16-for-31 through the air for 146 yards and score and added 51 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
- Defensive back Abu Kamara led the team with 14 tackles.
BRYANT 42, BROWN 35
12 p.m. // Providence, R.I. // Richard Gouse Field at Brown Stadium
- Brown (2-1) fell to in-state foe Bryant (2-3) 42-35 in a back-and-forth game.
- Running back Matt Childs was a force in both running and passing game. He rushed for 58 yards and a touchdown on just eight attempts and had five receptions for 93 yards and score. Quarterback Jake Willcox threw for 294 yards and touchdown.
- Linebacker Sam Smith posted a game-high 12 tackles.
DARTMOUTH 20, PENN 17
1 p.m. // Hanover, N.H. // Buddy Teevens Stadium at Memorial Field
- Behind a balanced offensive attack, Dartmouth (3-0, 1-0) topped Penn (1-2, 0-1) 20-17. The Big Green possessed the ball for 37:27.
- Big Green quarterback Jackson Proctor threw for a season-high 232 yards and two touchdowns, completing 77 percent of his passes. The running back duo of Q Jones (101) and Desmin Jackson (98) combined for 199 of Dartmouth’s 207 rushing yards. Defensive back Zach Farris led the team with eight tackles.
- Penn running back Malachi Hosley rushed for 82 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 15 attempts. Linebacker Kadari Machen had a game-high 15 tackles.
ALBANY 31, CORNELL 10
1 p.m. // Ithaca, N.Y. // Schoellkopf Field
- Albany (2-3) used multiple late scores to pull away from Cornell (1-2) 31-10. The contest was a one possession game late into the fourth quarter.
- Receiver Samuel Musungu had six catches for 87 yards. Quarterback Jameson Wang was 22-for-31 passing, good for 187 yards and a touchdown.
- Cornerback Michael O’Keefe had a game-high 11 tackles and a pass breakup.
