Week 5 Football Award Winners Announced

PRINCETON, N.J. – Following strong weeks on the gridiron, Columbia’s Chase Goodwin (offensive), Cornell’s Luke Banbury (defensive), Columbia’s Hugo Merry (special teams) and Princeton’s AJ Pigford (rookie) earned Ivy League football weekly awards.
 
Banbury was tabbed the Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player of the Week after his historic performance against Bucknell.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK 
Chase Goodwin, Columbia (So., QB – Houston, Texas)
  • Completed 28-of-40 passes for 334 yards, all career-highs, and added a pair of touchdowns in Columbia's 23-17 win at Penn
  • First Columbia quarterback to throw for over 300 yards since Anders Hill in 2017
  • Helped the Lions pick up their first victory at Franklin Field since 1996
     
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Luke Banbury, Cornell (Sr., LB – Pittsburgh, Pa.)
  • First Cornell player in single-game recorded history (since 1995) to tally a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and a pick-six
  • Had seven tackles including five solo stops and tallied three PBUs
  • His pick six was returned 26 yards
     
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Hugo Merry, Columbia (So., PK – Frederick, Md.)
  • Made season-high three field goals in Columbia's victory over Penn
  • His first make of the game was his ninth in a row, which set a Columbia record
  • Kicked off four times, each for a touchback
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
AJ Pigford, Princeton (Fr., LB – Snellville, Ga.)
  • Recorded three tackles in Princeton’s win over Brown
  • Notched a sack for a loss of 10 yards
  • Recorded a pass break up
