Columbia and Penn Take Women's Hoops Weekly Awards



PRINCETON, N.J. — Six Ivies recorded wins last week as Princeton defeated Vermont, an NCAA Tournament team from a season ago, while Columbia had a 2-0 week on the west coast. Individually, Columbia's Abbey Hsu (Player) and Penn's Mataya Gayle (Rookie) earned weekly awards. 

On the national level, three Ivies (Princeton, Columbia, and Harvard) rank inside the top-75 of the NCAA NET rankings.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Abbey Hsu, Columbia (Sr., G - Parkland, Fla.)
  • Averaged 24 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.5 steals in a 2-0 week for Columbia that included two road wins at San Francisco & Pacific.
  • Shot 54.5 for the field and 38.5% from three-point range with a season-high 31 points at San Francisco.
  • Recorded 17 points, eight rebounds and three assists at Pacific.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Mataya Gayle, Penn (Fr., G - Woodstock, Ga.)

  • Scored a career-high 28 points in Penn's win over Maine.
  • Shot 10-for-20 from the floor with two threes and was 6-for-8 at the free-throw line.
  • Added seven rebounds, three steals, and three assists in the game.
  • Finished week averaging 21 points, four rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2 steals in a 2-0 week for the Quakers.
