PRINCETON, N.J. – Following impressive performances at the Ivy League Men’s Golf Championship, Harvard’s
Brian Ma and Princeton’s
Riccardo Fantinelli unanimously earned postseason Ivy League honors following a vote by the League’s seven head coaches. In addition, Princeton head coach
Will Green was voted the Coach of the Year by his peers.
Harvard’s
Ma was unanimously voted the Ivy League Player of the Year after posting a 69.55 scoring average through 22 rounds this season, averaging 1.59 strokes under par. The junior finished in the top 15 in every tournament played this season including six top-10 finishes and four top-five finishes.
Ma finished in second place at the 2023 Ivy League Men’s Golf Championship at The Stanwich Club, carding a 54-hole score of 215 (70/74/71) at the three-day event to claim First Team All-Ivy accolades.
Ma’s shot his season-best score of 66 three times – at The Doc Gimmler, the Columbia Spring Invite and Princeton Invitational.
Ma is Harvard’s second golfer to earn Ivy League Player of the Year honors since the award was instituted in 2009, joining Greg Royston in 2017.
Princeton’s
Fantinelli is the unanimous Ivy League Rookie of the Year after a remarkable weekend at the Ivy League Men’s Golf Championship where he claimed individual medalist honors with a five-under par 54 hole score of 211 (72/70/69). In addition to winning the individual title at the Ivy League Championship,
Fantinelli won the Prestige Individual Invitational and finished top-10 (7th) in The Macdonald Cup where he shot a season-best 68 (-2). In all,
Fantinelli posted a 72.33 scoring average in his first season and averaged 0.76 strokes under par.
Fantinelli is the third consecutive Ivy League Rookie of the Year for Princeton as teammates Max Ting earned top rookie honors in 2019 while William Huang was the Rookie of the Year last season.
Green, in his 24th season as the head coach at Princeton, picks up his first Coach of the Year honor since the award was instituted in 2015. Green led the Princeton Tigers to their second Ivy League title since 2019, earning both the individual and team crown with a score of 880 (+16). In addition, Green coached three Princeton golfers to All-Ivy first team accolades including
Fantinelli, Jackson Fretty and
William Huang. Princeton was the lone Ivy team to produce three All-Ivy first team golfers.
In addition to the major postseason awards, the All-Ivy teams were awarded following the Men’s Golf Championship. The All-Ivy teams are based on the results from the three-day championship. The top-five finishers, including ties, were recognized on the first team, while the next five finishers, including ties, were honored as second team All-Ivy recipients.
Additionally, one student-athlete from each institution was recognized for their commitment in the classroom and on the course as members of the 2022-23 Ivy Men’s Golf Academic All-Ivy team. Columbia’s
