Princeton’s NCAA Tournament Run Concludes in Sweet 16

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Princeton men’s basketball team’s historic run came to end in the Sweet 16.

The Tigers, which were the fourth Ivy League team to make the Sweet 16 since the round began in 1975, fell to sixth-seeded Creighton by a score of 86-75.

“You look at this is such a successful year,” Princeton head coach Mitch Henderson said. “It's such a year of joy for our program. These guys have done something that no one has ever done, and I know that last time there's some really great Princeton teams in the past, but this is a really, really special team. It's such an honor to be around them on a day-to-day basis.”

Princeton seniors Tosan Evbuomwan and Ryan Langborg combined for 50 polnts. Langborg had 26 points on 11-of-17 shooting, while Evbuomwan had 24 points, nine assists and six rebounds.

Evbuomwan got hot in the first half, closing the opening frame with 15 points, six assists and four rebounds. He had a stretch near the midway point of the first half which he hit five of six shots.

Blake Peters and Langborg each ended the first half with nine points. Peters was 3-of-3 from the floor.

Creighton opened the second half hot, building its lead to 68-52 by the 12:28 mark.

The Tigers stayed within striking distance, thanks largely to Langborg. The San Diego native opened the second half shooting 7-of-9 from the field including 3-of-4 from deep, tallying 17 second half points.

Princeton narrowed the Blue Jays lead to seven points with 3:38 to go following a pair of free throws from Evbuomwan. However, Creighton had the answer and was able to fend of the Tigers comeback push.

“We fought. It's a heck of a team,” Henderson said. “We fought all the way to the end, but came up short. That does not define us one bit. This is a very special group, and I love them, love being their coach.”
