PRINCETON, N.J. – Princeton secured the 2023 Ivy League Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship Saturday evening at DeNunzio Pool. This marks the Tigers second championship in the last three seasons.
Princeton’s Charlotte Martinkus was the Rick Gilbert High Point Diver of the Meet. The freshman won both the 1M and 3M diving events to finish with 64 points. Her teammate Nikki Venema was the meet’s high point swimmer, claiming the highest possible score of 96 points.
Harvard’s Evie Geier was the career high point diver, compiling 122.5 points throughout her Ivy championship career. Her teammate Samantha Shelton was the career high point swimmer with 348 points in her four Ivy meets.
Penn opened Saturday’s finals by taking the first three spots in the 1650 free. Anna Kalandadze set the Ivy meet record with a time of 15:53.88. She was followed by Sydney Bergstrom (16:20.35) and Anna Moehn (16:22.41).
In the next event, Shelton claimed first place in the 200 back with a time of 1:54.42. She was followed by her teammate Anya Mostek, who posted a time of 1:55.64.
Venema capped off a remarkable performance with a 48.33 in the 100 free to claim her third individual title of the meet.
The Tigers claimed the top spot in the next event as well, with Margaux McDonald using a strong finish to earn first place in 2:11.38. She was followed by Yale’s Ava Franks, who had a time of 2:11.69.
Columbia’s Karen Liu earned a first place finish in the 200 fly with a time of 1:56.99.
Martinkus secured the 3M diving title with a score of 304.95.
Princeton put the stamp on its title in the final event. The Tigers 400 free relay team of Venema, Sabrina Johnston, Elzbieta Noble and Amelia Liu set a DeNunzio Pool record time of 3:15.25.
