Columbia Sweeps Women's Basketball Weekly Awards



PRINCETON, N.J.
 — In a week where Ivies recorded a combined four wins against Atlantic-10 and Big East programs, Columbia's Abbey Hsu and Riley Weiss took home the Player and Rookie of the Week awards, respectively.

Last Wednesday, both Columbia and Princeton defeated Big East opponents as the Lions downed Providence, 77-52 while the Tigers defeated Seton Hall in overtime, 75-71. Over the weekend, Yale defeated UMass on Friday, and Columbia picked up another win over the Big East, this one coming against Villanova — a Sweet 16 team last season.

The first NCAA NET rankings were released on Monday morning as three Ivies (Princeton, Harvard, and Columbia) are ranked inside the top-65.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Abbey Hsu, Columbia (Sr., G - Parkland, Fla.)
  • Averaged 20.5 points and seven rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Lions against Providence and Villanova.
  • Against Villanova, had the game-winning three-point play with 8.7 seconds left and scored 15 of her team-high 22 points in the second half.
  • Game-high 19 points vs. Providence with five rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Riley Weiss, Columbia (Fr., G - Hewlett, N.Y.)

  • Averaged 13.0 points in wins vs. Providence and Villanova.
  • Tallied 17 points, three rebounds, one assist, and one steal vs. Villanova.
